You would think Trump would know better.
He’s ruining his legacy and his actions could very easily cost Repubs the presidency in 2028 as well. Bush was only reelected because Kerry was a horrible candidate. A decent Dem candidate could beat Vance if Trump hollows things out.
He hasn’t ruined his legacy yet. All that has happened is bluster and positioning so far. I can even accept a few missiles and a precision strike only, and if only that actually would accomplish disarming Iran from Nuclear policy.
Israelis made a huge blunder here imo. Unless they want to actually engage in an occupation themselves they have no way of subduing Iran.
Iran could be bombed to tribalism, but that would also destabilize the region. I see this as there being no good answers with the cards dealt here.
Iran is run by bug-eyed, spittle-lipped, fundamental tyrannical terrorists who have screamed for decades they are going to destroy us and wipe us and Israel off the map, and who have DIRECTLY organized and funded the deaths of tens or hundreds of thousands of innocent people throughout the word for the last 46 years, and allowing them to possess nuclear weaponry should be cause for genuine, justified anxiety and deep concern.
These are people who violated every single tenet of diplomatic custom and protocol by seizing the US Embassy in 1979 and holding the diplomats captive for 444 days. They have demonstrated they cannot be allowed to have nuclear weaponry.
And this has been kicked down the road long enough. This isn’t Ukraine where we have zero strategic interest. This isn’t Afghanistan where there turned out to be not enough rubble to bounce to satisfy our national anger at 9/11. This isn’t Iraq where we are going to unsuccessfully try to stand up a democratically based government. I don’t give a crap about 1973, 1967, 1956, 1953, 1948, 1947, 1923, or 1916. Do not give a flying F**K about what happened then.
This is about what happened in 1979 and the world since then.
And anyone in or out of this forum who cannot understand that context has no place at the table of mature discourse on the subject.
You and I don’t agree on a lot, but we agree on this.
Do you have children? If so, would you trust their future to a world with a terrorism-exporting theocratic Iranian state with nuclear weapons?
“I want this odious regime of psychopaths completely and utterly destroyed and I don’t care if we have to do it ourselves.
Kill them all. Then kill their families.
Every last one of them.

So you are reincarnated Hitler and antisemetic too?
“Dig Carter up and make sure the SOB is dead.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amen to that! That sanctimonious bastard kicked the trash can over back then, the Shah got removed and the whole world got ‘em an Ayatolla. And since then, I cannot get my hands around why the US persisted in performing fellatio on that IQ 80, inbred, Satanic regime.
Oh wait...maybe kick backs?
So...since Carter got those goat-loving d!ck heads installed and considering what that regime has done, how many deaths and misery can one pin on Carter?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Yeah...make sure that SOB is dead.
“ So you are reincarnated Hitler and antisemetic too?”
No. I’m reincarnated Cesar. And Persians aren’t a Semitic people.
So try again, Skippy.
Yea. What you said.
In spades.
I believe the business with the capture of the US Embassy in Teheran in 1979 was never answered as it should have been at that time, and that has put us in 2025 where we are today. But then I also believe the actions of North Korea in 1968 with the USS Pueblo and in 1969 with the EC-123 over the Sea of Japan were never answered adequately, either.
Hey, it can’t be a war if only one side attacks, and the other side never fights back. Right?
“ Now are you talking about an occupation war?”
No. I am talking about a stomp them into unrecognizable mush and walking away kind of war. They can rebuild their own nation with their own resources.
“ Or are you talking turning Iran to glass?”
I thought I was pretty clear. But I’ll repeat it and use smaller words.
I want the mullahs dead. I want their henchmen dead. I want their combined families dead. There’s no need to “glass” the entire county. Just hunt every one of those mad dog nut jobs down and kill them.
Then we walk away.
Clear enough?
Question for you, can your kids survive a world where their country is bankrupt, their leaders are communists, and the religion is still muslim?
I can preface my statement that the moment Iran uses a nuke the gloves can come off all the way.
So you think you can general Iran into a surrender by some means we never had to subdue the Taliban?
I see that as a costly pipe dream.
Just for context, I have always liked most Iranians I knew personally.
I have known plenty of Iranians, both military and civilian (I studied in Navy Jet School with them before the mullahs took over, went to college with many Iranian citizens (until most of them were ordered back to Iran) and worked with more than a few naturalized Iranian US citizens.
What happened to Iran in 1979 was a terrible thing, because knowing Iranians as I did, I have always found them to be intelligent, forward thinkers with a sense of humor. I had high hopes they could drag that part of the world kicking and screaming into the 20th Century.
Instead, they got called home, and I never heard from any of them I went to college with again. Some were terrified at having to go home, but there were indeed some others who I got the impression were quite hostile to the West.
But that is all water over the dam today. Maybe some good beyond delaying or denying them access to nuclear weaponry will come from it, and that is reason enough for me.
And if bad comes from it, that was going to come anyway, sooner or later.
I think you’re on the right side of history!
“ So you think you can general Iran into a surrender by some means we never had to subdue the Taliban.”
I don’t want them subdued. I want them dead.
And to add insult to injury, the c’sucker lived to a ripe old age.
My dad was the Security and Communications Officer at Yokosuka in 1968, and he was apparently an intermittent drinking buddy with CDR Bucher, Captain of the USS Pueblo (since he also managed the Yokosuka Officer’s Club) so that incident resonates with me.
