Musk says SpaceX will decommission Dragon spacecraft after Trump threat

Elon Musk on Thursday said that his company SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft “immediately” because of threats by President Donald Trump to cancel government contracts with Musk’s businesses.

Musk’s announcement, on his social media site X, came amid an escalating war of words with Trump that began after the Tesla CEO criticized the major tax bill being pushed by the Republican president.

“In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” Musk wrote. Dragon is the only U.S. option for delivering crew to and from the International Space Station. A Dragon capsule brought NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams back to Earth in March after the pair were stranded for months at the ISS by a Boeing Starliner capsule. SpaceX is one of the biggest federal contractors. Since 2008, SpaceX has received more than $20 billion in contracts from NASA, the Air Force and other agencies. According to SpaceX’s website, “The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit, and beyond.” “It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth, and is the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station,” the company says. SpaceX has been developing a replacement for Dragon.

Trump threatens to end government contracts with Musk’s companies. Do we really want the president to wield so much power? Musk responds, “Fine, I will take my marbles and go home.” Maybe Putin can help in retrieving our astronauts from the space station. (half joking)

When he becomes an enemy agent acting against America then he is stepping into a whole new world.

Yeah, I think this is all bullsh*t. They’re just playing this up to distract their enemies. I have a feeling that Dems will quickly reach out to Musk for something, and you’ll see things change quickly.

This crap is really childish.

I can’t be surprised by DJT opening his mouth.

There’s just no excuse for this childish nonsense. If Elon harms our space effort, he should go straight to hell.

And if Trump ends up exposing Elon in some other way, how is that good for national security.

Both need to stop now.

I think Musk is cutting off his nose to spite his face.

He needs to step back and tack a breather.

lol. Distract from what? Right now it’s blowing up the bill Trump wants passed. Why would he engage in something that does that?

Musk got a first hand look, from the top down, of what our government is.

I trust him slightly more than ANY government official, including Trump - after all, Musk has his own agenda as well.

I think, as a visionary, we should try to read between the lines, and read THE lines, of what Musk is saying and doing.

My hope that a Trump/Vance 12 year period that would go a long way toward helping to fix the federal government, and America in general, is on it’s way to crumbling. I revert now to the idea that the only true fix is for the American people to rise up and create a new government and rid itself of the collectivists/mentally ill, at the roots.
