Ukraine hits bridge linking Crimea to Russia with underwater explosives
The Guardian ^ | 3 June 2025 | Owen Amos and Jemma Crew

Ukraine has detonated a massive underwater blast targeting the key road and rail bridge connecting the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula to Russia, damaging its underwater supports.

The operation, claimed by Kyiv’s SBU security service, is the second high-profile operation by Ukraine in days striking significant Russian assets after a sophisticated drone raid on Moscow’s strategic bomber fleet on Sunday.

The attack came as Ukraine confirmed it had been invited to the Nato summit later this month, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned it would be a “victory” for Russia if it was not present.

The latest strike on the 12-mile-long Kerch bridge – a prestige project of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, which he opened in 2018 – comes amid what appear to be determined efforts by Ukraine to change the narrative promoted by the Trump administration that Kyiv holds few cards in the war.

The mining of the bridge, which is heavily defended by Russian forces, follows the audacious long-range drone attack on airbases deep in side Russia, which Zelenskyy claimed had damaged “34% of [Russia’s] strategic cruise missile carriers”.

Tha assassination of the archduke was simply the excuse for the war.

Carpet bombing, similar to what we did to German cities during WW-2, would stop the war quickly. Kyiv could be the first target.

No, it is not. There is no insurgency in Russian controlled areas.

Russia doesn't have air-superiority over Ukraine. Bombers would be shot down.

Also, carpet bombing the germans in WW2 didn't stop the war.

There will be in the areas that don’t have Russian populations. The Bear got his ass kicked by a bunch of ragtag Afghani tribes on horseback carrying RPGs and rifles.

Three little words end this all..Russia Leaves Ukraine. This is all due to the mindset of a sick old man wanting to be Stalin the 2nd and controlling a new Soviet slave empire.

#8: "WWI got started by a single assassination."

Yes. The assassin, Gavrilo Princip, a greasy nobody, was the greatest mass murderer in the history of world.

Another example of Ukraine doing its best to convince Russia that it MUST take Odessa and all Ukraine territory anywhere near the Black Sea.

You realize that Odessa is on the other side of the Dnieper River, right? There's no way for the Russians to reinforce their troops if they were able to seize Odessa.

Czar Nicky could have called off the mobilization of the Russian Army.

Oh well, he ended up paying the price for it, along with his family.

Yes it was nuking civilians in Hiroshima stopped the war. But carpet bombing German cities did demoralize Germans. I don’t think Russia should nuke Ukraine, yet. Try carpet bombing first.

Since then you are referring to the US forces as Bear?
The Soviets had a temporary deployment in Afghanistan under the agreement with the Afghan government, the term expired in 1989 and they were orderly withdrawn. Afghan government lasted several more years.
In 1979-1989 they enjoyed a much better control than the US forces at every moment in Afghanistan where the US strategically lost around 2010. Whenever the Taliban attacked the outpost and the casualties were taken the territory was permanently abandoned. The 2021 disorderly retreat from Kabul in face of the enemy onslaught was the icing on that cake.

Try carpet bombing first.

Russians can't carpet bomb Ukraine, without establishing air superiority.

If there was a worldwide ban on doing any trade or transactions with Russia and Ukraine

Why Ukraine? Ukraine did not start the war.

Why not punish the perpetrator alone, Russia?

when it comes to the war in Ukraine, there are many who want things to be handled the same way democrats handle criminals in their blue areas, which is that, the criminal is the victim and the victim is not allowed to act as the victim.

When it comes to ending the war, the only thing that needs to happen is to restore things to the same conditions they were before the Feb 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

But, that would be too sensible or too much common sense, and now, both nations are being accused of being warmongering countries. NUTS!!!

********************************************************************

Which is why they would first seize and secure land across the Dnieper enroute to taking Odessa. It’s important in military campaigns to have secure lines of communication.

Russia that it MUST take Odessa and all Ukraine territory anywhere near the Black Sea.

I've been saying that the entire time. Ukraine becomes land locked and their control stops at a demilitarized zone near the Dnieprer river... all the way to Moldova. Zaporihizia to Kryvri to Moldova.

If the Russians could get that line from Kryviri to Zaporihzia solidified that would be tough but if somehow they got Kropyvnytskyi to Dnipro that would prevent them from getting flanked and take that highway away from supplying the Odessa area.

That's going to be a hard slog from what they've done so far. I'd really like to know if Putin is willing to just level that entire area and be done with it.

The drones are just wreaking havoc with logistics and supplies. I'm just wondering why they (Russians) haven't or couldn't do the same with the rail, highway and bridges heading into Ukraine.

Just a weird thing if you think about it. Belarus is the key really. I'm sure both sides are really keeping an eye for what is building up there.

Zelenskyy is doing all he can to keep the war going. He doesn’t want it to end. If the war ends, he will likely have to live in exile.

I agree. Z doesn’t want an end to the war (or the money flow). That much is obvious. And Graham & Blumenthal are using more of our tax money to travel there and urge him on.
