I started writing my Imperfect America blog in 2009. It’s my passion, despite the sad fact that it’s never made me a penny. Not even on Twitter, new or old, where my account is constantly throttled!
My first post was titled “Racism, America’s Original Sin.” It was a response to the new normal of anyone disagreeing with Barack Obama being called a racist. In it, I talk about the 3/5th Compromise and the fact that it gave Southerners less power in the House than they wanted, but more importantly, it was the key to America being one nation rather than two, one free and one slave. I pointed out that blacks would likely have been much worse off in a nation of only slave states. The 3/5th Compromise is a literal example of the subtitle of my blog: “Perfect is the enemy of the good.”
At the end of the day, over the last million or so words, I’ve written about everything from race to the judiciary to entrepreneurship to European travel and more, most from a conservative, even libertarian perspective. I regularly argue that Western civilization is the greatest that men have thus far produced. And it’s not even close. While the Egyptians built the pyramids 5,000 years ago, the Sumerians, Egyptians, and Greeks developed math, and the Chinese invented gunpowder and paper, the reality is that almost every single thing used by most people worldwide today is a consequence of Western civilization.
For most of human history, life was brutal, short, and dangerous. For most people today, it’s not. And there’s a reason, which is these five elements: Free speech, the rule of law, limited government, private property, and capitalism, which combined to give humans the unprecedented ability and motivation to be creative and productive.

European-derived men are the ONLY PEOPLE who are able to resist voting Tribal, and thus the ONLY PEOPLE who can effectively operate a multiparty country.
Every time I walk into Costco or any supermarket for that matter, I think “OMG, how many people in this country realize how truly rare this kind of abundance is in the world?” I think about how technology has made life so comfortable and so extraordinarily convenient. But of course, that’s the reason why we are degenerating into a culture of self interest, sloth and ignorance. I saw a t-shirt yesterday that said “Embrace discomfort “. We need more discomfort and less leisure, more discipline and less impulsiveness, more hardship and less convenience. Even if it’s manufactured and self imposed. It’s worth it, but requires tuning out 99% of what we hear and see.

A lot of highly valued foodstuffs and drinks are of non-Western origin—chocolate, corn, potatoes, coffee, tea, chicken, turkey. But it took modern Western society to make abundance commonplace.
Yep
Thats why wwi and wwii were orchestrated
Its why russia and ukraine are wiping out white men
I’m with you on this one.
Potatoes, chocolate, corn (maize), and turkeys are all Native to the Americas-not the East-explorers brought them to Europe from here-along with tomatoes and tobacco. Chickens are originally from East-Southeast Asia, coffee is from Arabia/Africa, tea from China...
“Thats why wwi and wwii were orchestrated. Its why russia and ukraine are wiping out white men”. Its why russia and ukraine are wiping out white men.
Both World Wars started after European countries gave women the vote. Beyond that, the Ukraine War was started and fueled by women (Victoria Nuland started it, the women in the EU and Biden administration fueled it).
True. But always remember that it’s from a culture change called the Great Awakenings. I hate the left’s constant indoctrination against whites. Yet, the real battle we must win is the spiritual battle the left always works. For decades we’ve been losing that battle and the results are showing (as indicated in the article). If we win the battle, and if we can encourage other folks to join, the next great awakening can change the culture of more than just the west.
European-derived men are the ONLY PEOPLE who are able to resist voting Tribal
Ping for future posts on this conversation.
The 3/5 compromise is older than the Constitution.
It originated in 1783 during the Articles of Confederation government, and it arose during a debate on taxation.
James Madison explains the reasoning for the 3/5 compromise and argues for it in Federalist Paper 54.

People, today, have waaaay too much time on their hands. We don’t lead hard-scrabble lives anymore, where if we didn’t work we would have literally starved.
Now, enter the welfare state. No more ‘required to work’ JUST to survive even. NOW enter into the picture illegal activities (crime), like drugs (sales & distribution), prostitution, burglary, shoplifting ...
Excellent essay.
feminism is destroying the family and everything else follows ...
It’s good to see a thinly-veiled surface-level defense of the 3/5ths compromise.
It would’ve been a disaster if the original 5/5ths proposal had become the standard. Luckily many of the Founding Fathers would not have it.
The 3/5ths clause is way more defensible than most are willing to attempt, which is sad.
Just goes to show the sad state of historical knowledge among Americans of American history.
The idea that the U.S. has slavery as “America’s original sin” is bunk. That would assume that the U.S. invented slavery - which it did not. Further, that would have to alternatively assume that slavery was somehow established in defiance of the crown starting in 1619 - which is a lie.
Slavery was established with support of the crown which is why slavery popped up across every last one of the crown’s colonies. <—— That is not an accident. How they gonna blame Jamaican slavery on the U.S.? They cannot. How are they gonna blame Barbadian slavery on the U.S.? They can’t. In those days it was all the same, slavery in the empire’s colonies was slavery in the empire’s colonies and that was how it was as far north to as far south.
If slavery is anybody’s “original sin”, it’s the British Empire’s.
To completely abandon the information battle right here is to prematurely abandon the spiritual battle as well. I see no reason to surrender so soon.
Normally it is to no avail, but I still try as much as I can to talk about the Abolitionist Founding Fathers and highlight, that it was here on American soil where the whole idea of an abolitionist movement began.
To that extent I find this a favorite go-to:

Our Founding Fathers were in fact on the correct side and they are so, so easy, so easy! to defend on this topic. We just have to get at the documented information that progressives have hidden for all these decades.
Great article. Thanks for posting.
