“This is a GREAT four-month start to any year,” exclaimed CNBC’s Rick Santelli as brand new economic indicators show inflation is down, incomes are up, and the trade deficit is narrowing — shattering economists’ expectations once again.
- INFLATION IS DOWN: “Inflation rate slipped to 2.1% in April, lower than expected, Fed’s preferred gauge shows,” CNBC reports.
- INCOME IS UP: Personal income increased 0.8% in April — “almost TRIPLE the expectations.” “They’re powerful numbers — up 0.6% in January, up 0.7% in February, up 0.5% last month, up 0.8% this month. This is a GREAT four-month start to any year.”
- CNBC: “The income numbers, really, for the first four months of year — they’re stellar … Why don’t we give credit where credit is due? Income really shooting up.”
- TRADE DEFICIT NARROWS: It was the largest monthly decline in the trade deficit on record.
- CNBC: “We cut it in HALF!? … This really does underscore how the movement of goods and services has really changed due to a variety of tariff-related issues.”

Don't want to burst anyone's inflationary bubble but in south central Pennsylvania gas prices are dead even to where they were at Labor Day 2024....$3.49.

Where are all those who said tariffs would send us into an economic black hole? There was a bunch right on this site!

A really good sign would be when we can afford to make pennies again.

In the blizzard of executive orders, in the welter of foreign trade deals so far mostly inchoate, and in the confusion of nationwide judicial injunctions and counter injunctions, I am at a loss to identify what actions of the Trump administration, that have had time to go into effect, can justify blaming Trump for failures of the economy or crediting him for advances of the economy?

Same in my corner of PA. Gas prices are still hovering around $3.00 a gallon. When President Trump was cheated out of his second term in 2020, gas was $2.26.

What tariffs? Most are paused at this point. Nothing has been settled.

Gas here has been up & down, but right around $3.00. The store prices that went up haven’t come down that I noticed. None of the stuff I regularly buy has come down that I noticed. Some stuff that I DON’T regularly buy may have come down; I can’t say. Most everything I can see has stayed about the same.

A few of the items I regularly purchase had increased a lot not very long ago & remained at the higher price. My wages are fixed.

For prices to come down we need deflation. Presently the inflation rate is coming down meaning prices are increasing at much slower rate.
