Rangel was your typical Democrat rascal.
But he earned the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for valor during the Korean War. The guy was a genuine war hero. Respect to him for that.

Wondered who was going to catch the “Harem”....or were you just remarking about him being a political institution? Couldn’t really picture him with a Harem!!!!

Its seems most members in safe blue seats stay in office until they die, Rangel was an exception.

“Every dollar we spend with (South Africa’s segregationist government) makes us accomplices in their crimes!” had thundered Congressman Charles Rangel while lobbying for the South Africa embargo, a U.S. diplomatic policy almost unanimously hailed by the U.S. media and political establishment and passed by Congress in 1986 as the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act.
“No true friend of democracy can also be a friend of (South Africa’s segregationist government.) In any business dealings with (this government) we become tainted by association!” continued Congressman Rangel.
****
Meanwhile, Rangel, who supported sanctions against S. Africa, was against sanctions on Cuba, which has been holding political prisoners in much more brutal conditions than Mandela experienced.
