Many don’t. The beating of Rodney King changed a lot of minds in that regard.

And that’s a shame. The nightstick works well as a prod or push weapon. But it shouldn’t be used as a baseball bat, as what happened in the Rodney King case.

The nightstick with a short handle is called a Tonfa which is Okinawan for “chair bar”.

No, the night stick should be used as a black jack to place blows on the upper body and head of a person resisting arrest and endangering the cop.
