There are at least six million job openings in the U.S., yet we have a record number of working age men not working. Maybe one reason is the Feds are still paying people welfare not to work.
Brad Wilcox and Grant Bailey of the Institute for Family Studies report:
The 2024 Current Population Survey indicates that 31% of men ages 25-40 who are not working full-time collected some form of cash or cash-equivalent benefit in the form of food stamps, Social Security for disability, Supplemental Security Income, or unemployment insurance in the prior year. Such benefits are particularly common among the nearly 4 million men in this age group who are not in the labor force, of whom 40% had received some cash or cash-equivalent government benefit. This doesn’t include other non-cash government supports, like health insurance or reduced rent.

As our UP economic advisory board member David Bahnsen points out in his great book Full Time: Work and the Meaning of Life , this trend of young men not working is an economic and social catastrophe for America if it continues. Work is highly associated with dignity, happiness, health, marriage and intact families.
Why should you even apply if the lazy DEI colleague is going to be promoted past you?
Scew it. Let the companies that follow DEI and affirmative action die. If I was under 40 I wouldn’t work either
Exactly.
11%?
That’s a lot of SS “disability”.
I’m sure there’s a lot of student loan loafers, incarcerees, mommy’s basement dwellers, and homeless mentally ill and drug addicts.
However, I’d bet there are a lot in some kind of undergound economy, both legit and criminal, that are making money but the government doesn’t know about it, and they probably learned how to do it from the illegals.
Where does one go to find and apply to these 6 million jobs?
“Men NOT at Work”
I thought this was going to be an article about congress.
Many men work for cash only type of jobs.
Well, let’s see. I had to resign some time ago because my eyesight interferes with my ability to work like I once did.
I tried to get an RA but the doctor was unhelpful; even after being told directly.
So, I checked up on other jobs at a local state office for such things. There was one Latino female, 3 black guys from Senegal and one Honky.
See if y’all can guess who got maybe 1%-2% of the attention?
It’s an obvious that discrimination is encouraged and active.
[Where does one go to find and apply to these 6 million jobs?]
Excellent question. They’re often advertised but they nearly as often don’t really exist.
STILL unless one checks certain “boxes”
This is our real deficit, constructed out of a culture of entitlement produced by positive reinforcement conditioning in public schools.
Regards,
Exactly! How do I know? I have a rental vacancy in a rustbelt, once bedroom community before the Left chased away all the manufacturing jobs.
I refuse to rent my beautifully rehabbed apts to deadbeats, which are the vast majority of the applicants.
I easily go through 200 inquirers before finding one applicant with steady, sufficient income, a credit score over 600, a good previous landlord reference, no criminal history nor evictions. Stuff that was fairly common before the scamdemic. Most are hoards of single, subsidized women with multitudes of out of control kids and lots of baby daddy drama. To make things worse, many Gen Zs believe housing should be free!
Cut the public assistance benefits.

I can count on one hand the number of people that I know that are on The Disability and can’t work. Most of the “cash” workers here are on The Disability. I bet 5% of the people I know on The Disability won’t work because of Weed.
Bfl, read after work.
I don't understand this kind of thinking. Why wouldn't you just start your own business?
There are some jobs men are just better suited for:
But kids with an ADHD diagnosis, for example, can go on SS—and then how strong is their work incentive?
I seem to recall, from a very early age, a proverb about idle hands. Maybe we should be teaching those things again to young people, instead of Johnny wants to be Susie.
