In response to ongoing concerns about Boeing’s delays, President Donald J. Trump has asked L3Harris Technologies to provide an interim presidential aircraft by the end of the year, according to The Wall Street Journal.
This decision marks a significant change in how presidential flights will be handled.
Boeing, which was awarded a $3.9 billion contract to deliver two next-generation Air Force One aircraft, has fallen significantly behind schedule by years and is now billions of dollars over budget.
Trump’s newly selected contractor, L3Harris, headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, is tasked with retrofitting a previously Qatari-owned Boeing 747 as a temporary command and control platform.
Multiple officials familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that Trump has demanded frequent updates on the project......
Nonetheless, Trump is pressing forward. The interim aircraft will complement the aging VC-25A fleet, two heavily modified Boeing 747-200Bs that have served as Air Force One since the George H.W. Bush administration.
Both aircraft need a lot of maintenance and have limitations on their use.
This situation shows that the US Air Force is losing trust in Boeing’s ability to meet its commitments. During the Biden administration, then–Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall thought about canceling the contract entirely.

Excellent point.
I could see it being sabotaged anyways because of trying to take Trump out.

So, maybe the POTUS is looking far enough ahead should something happen where both current AF1’s were grounded due to some maintenance issue and he would need to get in the air for some security issue and get out of DC in a hurry. Listen, to me no emergency scenario is off the table when it comes to the deep state. Would they bomb the Capitol to get rid of Trump?? Well, would they destroy two buildings in NYC to start a war?? I don’t put nothing past nobody anymore, they tried to kill him twice already, you know they won’t stop and will try again, even if it means destroying our Capitol.
“I could see it being sabotaged anyways because of trying to take Trump out.”
That is always a possibility for sure. But the way government contractors operate they will probably still not be done three Presidents from now so I don’t think he has to worry anyhow. Government contractors are all about delays and overruns. Run out of money-get more, run out of money-get more, run out of money-get more...
It is a intentional practice and business tactic. They will work this for another fifteen years or more...
Typo. The word “by” is redundant.
*********
Three times may be the charm.......
Keep trying, have a good ‘en.
Trump could post that on his media account and cause a stroke at Boeing...lol
>>>Boeing is cooked.
They’re doing the F-47!
What is amazing is that POTUS let Boeing get the F47 contract and didn’t immediately cancel the AF1 contract.
Both concern me greatly given all that we - and POTUS - know.
One can only hope that since Boeing is now under corporate welfare it is operating under very, VERY strict conditions moving forward.
“ They hired another accountant to lead, probably because they can’t find an engineer to do it. Rank and file will tell you about the in the line issues”
Boeing is offshoring their IT. It’s apparently cheaper to do things three times before they get it right. A company that’s comfortable doing this is not a company whose planes I would fly on.
I bet Boeing was rooting for the casting couch drunk....
SHIPS ARE EVEN WORSE.
McDonnell-Douglas holdovers + woke makes Boing, (not a typo), a mess.
“”Typo. The word “by” is redundant.””
It wasn’t needed at all so it wasn’t redundant...I was trying to make sense of why it was there...trying to make it work. It didn’t!
Harris - best known for innovation in newspaper printing presses and a typesetting machine that was second to Linotype.
That IS good....thanks.
Guess this is a Big B Slap to Boeing. The Soviets had a saying, “best is the enemy of good enought”…..
The word, “by,” appeared out of nowhere. Please disregard it.
Boeing DEI is a national security threat.
