Coloradans Demand Full Pardon for Tina Peters

The people of Colorado are flooding their governor’s office with calls for the release of Tina Peters.

She is the former Mesa County clerk and recorder who is serving a nine-year sentence for election interference. In office, she was responsible for maintaining election systems in her county.

The Denver Post calls the ruling “persecution” and an “example of [a] weaponized justice system.

Like many Americans in 2020, she had questions about election integrity. During an election software update, she gave someone else’s election security credential to a man she trusted. This individual took pictures of source codes, which should be open anyway, and published them. This action impacted no votes and occurred after the election. For that, 69-year-old Peters sits in the Larimer County jail, just a few months into the first part of her 9-year sentence.

It’s a shocking amount of time, especially when compared to the clemency shown other criminals and illegal aliens. Peters’ full story is told in Lara Logan’s 2024 documentary [S]election Code.

Peters appeared via phone from jail on Stern American last week. Host Steve Stern issued an appeal for people to call Governor Polis at 303-866-2471 to demand Peters’ full pardon and release. “We’d like everybody that’s listening to call the governor. He’s running for president, so certainly we think that he’d want to get Tina out of jail,” he said. “The justice department is working on it.”

Stern named a goal of one million calls, and also posted the governor’s email address: [email protected].

Regardless of whether she is released, Peters told Stern, she has lost her Social Security, which was vital to paying her mortgage. She thanked her supporters for their prayers and encouragement and urged people...
