A White House official told Reuters that the president will meet Monday afternoon to discuss his tariff policies; the meeting will includes representatives from Walmart, Home Deport, Lowe’s, and Target. Walmart confirmed that its CEO, Doug McMillon, would attend the meeting.

More than half of Walmart’s imports are from China, while Home Deport and Lowe’s also import from the country.

When I worked at Wally’s corporate HQ from 2001-2006, I tried to point out that one missile flying over the Taiwan strait would lead to Wally’s stores being empty within weeks and gosh, wouldn’t it be a good idea to diversify the supply chain.

I admit, they did get away with a heavy reliance on China for 20 years but now the bill has come due. They really should have seen this coming.

Should never have moved all our factories to an anti-western commie authoritarian hell hole like China in the first place…but it did make some people very rich so I guess it’s worth it

Not diversifying is sometimes great and sometimes not great, but that’s the risk.

How many small local businesses did Walmart put out of business over the last 30 years by moving into every city selling cheap China crap? Karma.
They didn’t seem to be paying attention to Trump’s campaign message on tariffs and specifically China.

<>They really should have seen this coming.<>

They did. So did Congress since the mid-90s.

Neither did nothing because the money was too good. ‘Eff middle America.

Congressional inaction over 30 year is why Trump was forced to take the meat cleaver approach.

Me too. I don’t feel bad about Walmart and Target because they sell cheap clothing and shoes made in China and then make everyone including old folks to check out their own purchases. They are upping prices but taking away check out clerks so they don’t have to pay people. As an older person with a bad back it’s not easy to shop and then check my own groceries and bag them.
