A school board meeting in Maine’s capital city of Augusta on Wednesday night featured a contentious interaction between a parent in a “MAGA” hat and the school board president over the state’s ongoing controversy over trans athlete inclusion in girls’ sports.
Augusta School Board Chair Martha Witham cut off local parent Nick Blanchard while he discussed the controversial issue and a petition he launched to have Cony Middle and High School Principal Kim Liscomb removed from her position, as seen in footage of the meeting.
Liscomb is currently the president of the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA), which supports transgender athletes’ participation in school sports based on gender identity and has been a subject of scrutiny by President Donald Trump’s administration over the issue.
Blanchard, who showed up to the meeting in a “MAGA” hat and a T-shirt of Gov. Janet Mills that read, “You’re fired,” started his speech by praising the six of the seven members of the board who voted to adopt the 2020 interpretation of Title IX that did not allow trans athletes to compete as girls.
Blanchard also condemned the board member who voted against it, which prompted the first interruption by Witham.
“Good job and thank you to the six members that voted to go back to the 2020 interpretation of Title IX, and shame on the one board member that voted no,” Blanchard began.

Should immediately file suit for violation of first amendment rights. Supreme court already ruled on this ages and ages ago, public is allowed to make remarks against public officials and the officials have to sit there and take it - like it or not.
Maine is now the northernmost county of Massachusetts.
Maine is now the northernmost county of Massachusetts.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. (Maine was part of Massachusetts before the Missouri Compromise.)
Yup,I'm aware of that.
Maine actually used to be part of Massachusetts.

I am thinking that New England will be the Last England. ;-)
Not in Maine, apparently.
They are pursuing the policy of BeijingBiden — my ruling/order will continue until you finance a SCOTUS decision to reverse it. This will continue unabated until there are some perp walks. Not before.
100% correct. Now, these public bodies do of course have the right to control when public comments can be made, time limits, and they have the right to enforce a bit of decorum. Hopefully the speaker followed all the rules. But no level of government has any right whatsoever to regulate the content of someone’s speech and it sounds like that is what they did.
“they have the right to enforce a bit of decorum”
Actually the supreme court ruling said that the only things they can control are when and amount of time for public comments. They must provide for it, but can set those limits. What they cannot control is the content of the speech - including foul language, name calling, etc....lots and lots of precedent.
Blanket party incoming.
First transgender person elected to local office in Maine
(”They” as in “Legion”?)
“To my knowledge,” Neptune wrote on Facebook, “I am […] the first Two-Spirit person to run for any kind of office in our community. I mention this because it is a big part of who I am; being transgender and non-binary is part of who I am, and part of who you would be electing, should you select my name.”
Neptune identifies as Two-Spirit, a traditional non-binary gender role found in many Indigenous cultures that may fulfill a ceremonial and social role.
They graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel and earned a theater degree from Dartmouth College. They returned to the Indian Township reservation to focus on basket making techniques they were taught by their grandmother, Molly Neptune Parker, a Passamaquoddy elder and master basket weaver.
Neptune is an activist with the Idle No More movement, which advocates for First Nations and Native American sovereignty and cultural preservation.
They have talked about detrimental effects imposed upon Indigenous people through settler-colonial norms of gender and patriarchy.
