Two American Airlines jet have had a minor collision on the runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport - just three months after a deadly crash near there. The Federal Aviation Administration said the wingtip of one aircraft struck another on Thursday afternoon. At least two members of Congress were aboard one of the jets. Nick LaLota, a New York Republican, said no-one was hurt when the wing of their stationary plane was "bumped" by another jet. Sixty-seven people died on 29 January when an Army helicopter collided in midair with a jetliner as it landed at the same airport.

Looks like conflicting reports - 2 or 5 reps on board...reports are as flaky as the reps!

I was thinking about going to D.C this summer, but so many accidents and near misses at the airport, I’ll go somewhere else.

You’re right - they wouldn’t be allowed to leave without a thorough inspection - not a 10 minute look see!

From the two different reports I’ve seen, they were both waiting to take off - not like Tenerife in the Canary Islands...THAT was a collision!

A little duct tape will fix that right up... You’ll be on your way in to time.

That airport should have been closed years ago.

"Has the budget bill been passed?"

In the House it did, so they're getting out of town early, when they're supposed to be working five days a week unless Congress is out of session. So we're paying them for five days when they're only working four. Are we paying for their plane tickets from their office budgets?

It now goes to committee for budget items. But the hard part is done. They are leaving for Easter break.

Yeah, go crazy over five pol’s and forget the other passengers since they’re just voters.

Reagan should have been shut down long ago, but it would inconvenience the swamp.

Why close down a working, convenient airport that’s used by large numbers of everyday people? It’s not the fault of the airport. It’s the fault of the pilots and/or the dispatchers — and likely also DEI.

Close the Reagan, it’s only there to accommodate the Pols

At this point, they should restrict the airport to private jets and helicopters.

If you want to fly commercial, go over to Dulles or BWI.

Part of the problem is planes have gotten larger, but terminals have not.

Aircraft are both very delicate and robust simultaneously. They can take incredible stresses where designed to do so, but abnormal loading can cause major damage.

It’s like your knee joint, it can take hundreds of pounds in a vertical load, but only 40 pounds as a lateral load at the joint itself will cause it to dislocate.

Wingtips aren’t designed to take actual mechanical impacts, and any sort of impact on anything other than the doorframes or landing gear is by definition a collision.

"They left for Easter break today and will return on April 28th."

Easter's one day. I never got it off, and definitely never got a 15 day break from work because of it. Any extra time I took was taken from my vacation, sick and personal leave accruals. I shouldn't have worked a job where I earned a third of what members of Congress do after 33 years. I should have run for Congress so I'd been able to rip the taxpayer off instead.

"Congress people average over a million dollars each for expenses."

That's plain nuts and a total waste.
