Consumer price inflation eased more than expected in March as President Donald Trump prepared to launch tariffs against U.S. trading partners, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.
The consumer price index, a broad measure of goods and services costs across the U.S. economy, fell a seasonally adjusted 0.1% in March, putting the 12-month inflation rate at 2.4%, down from 2.8% in February.
Excluding food and energy, so-called core inflation ran at a 2.8% annual rate, having increased 0.1% for the month. That was the lowest rate for core inflation since March 2021.

We should begin seeing gas go down. I paid 3.26 in central Florida yesterday. Hopefully next week the price will fall.
This is the most important news for America since Trump took office. The lower middle class and working poor, the actually bedrock of MAGA, are getting exactly what they voted for. The stock market fluctuates up and down and every talking head explodes with every move. A majority of Americans couldn’t care less. When that working class mom buys groceries and gas at Kroger today, she’ll know who’s got her back.
Once again the experts are surprised, the favorite word being “unexpected”
Funny how many of us plebs expected this.
In related news: A truck of Xanax was seen at the loading dock of the DNC HQ.
Translation: the Fed has no reason to raise rates and destroy the economy just cuz Trump’s in office.
One might almost think Trump knows exactly what he’s doing with his economic plans. I wonder when the whining cretins will finally realize they are the dumb ones, not Trump?
They were so sure that Trump’s tariffs - which we really shouldn’t have to point out were NOT in effect during the period measured for this statistic - would fuel inflation. Its almost as if they still don’t understand (or want to understand) that government spending - which is the million pound gorilla when it comes to inflation - fuels inflation.
Good. If it gets low enough, maybe the government can start including the cost of food and gasoline in inflation. Then, it can mean something like it means to the ordinary American and not thieving ‘Rats.
It has become a mystery to me, too, that inflation does not appear in taxation. The government is rewarded for mismanaging the dollar by getting more of them.
The Fed could drop rates 25bps now and help matters.
I think there is a phrase called, “educated stupid” which many so called professionals caught in life.
I wish for crying out loud that we would STOP publishing inflation and cost of living numbers that exclude food and fuel. How the hell do people live without food or fuel? This was started by Democrat administrations, and we should never use it, but make a very visible and repeated point of the difference in current and previous numbers.
Each of us has a personal inflation rate. Averages don’t mean much.
But the numbers presented are very accurate for dead people who don’t go anywhere........................
Groceries and gas inflation aren’t included in this figure but hopefully they’ll follow.
Around here eggs are down 30% to 50% from the Biden highs. Still too high but hopefully sane energy policies will lower all prices further.
Yeah, I always found it laughable when inflation was galloping at a double digit pace with gas and groceries even higher that they weren’t included. I just completed a Kroger delivery order this morning and I’m sitting very comfortably on my behind afterward. I’m getting used to not being reamed every week.
It will be adjusted down in 30 days.
Was hoping same for California - paid $4.65/gallon yesterday - and that was WITH a few gas points from the local supermarket - regular price was $4.99 - at the last gas station selling gas for under $5.00/gallon.
New tax is set to hit July 1st adding ≈ .$65/cents/gallon.
California voters accept it and vote in same idiots time and time again.
The headline number DOES include food and energy
