Judge rejects NYC’s request to order immediate return of $80 million from FEMA to shelter migrants

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that the Federal Emergency Management Agency doesn’t need to immediately return more than $80 million that it took away from New York City last month in a dispute over funding for sheltering migrants.

Judge Jennifer H. Rearden in Manhattan declined to issue a temporary restraining order, saying the city had failed to prove it will suffer irreparable harm.

The city’s lawsuit against President Donald Trump and other federal defendants was expected to proceed as New York seeks a preliminary injunction.

The city sued the Trump administration on Feb. 21 after FEMA clawed back grant funding intended to reimburse the city for hotels it leased as shelters for migrants.

FEMA claimed it rescinded the funds over concerns a violent gang had taken over a city shelter.

FEMA approved and awarded the funds during the final months of President Joe Biden’s administration but didn’t disburse them until after Trump took office, the city said.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Helene victims were camping in tents and freezing to death while being told no funds were available.

In 2020, upon the recommendation of Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the Trump Administration nominated Jennifer Rearden to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Rearden was, however, not confirmed before the end of the Administration. She now has a second chance after being renominated by Biden.

The progressive Left don’t much like her.

FEMA has confirmed that 3,500 American households will lose Transitional Sheltering Assistance, just days before the worst winter storm rolls in. Videos show a car line “a mile-long” for portable heaters and propane. FEMA’s infamous "$750 loans" to Americans in US disaster areas are still available.

On Friday, October 20th, 2023, the Biden Administration sent a Supplemental Funding Request to the Congress that contains key priorities for the American Jewish community:

$14.3 Billion in Emergency assistance to Israel: This emergency assistance will bolster Israel’s ability to defend herself and replenish vital defense systems, including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense programs.

Biden increased Funding for FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP): Vulnerable Jewish communities are in a state of elevated readiness and have already been forced to increase their security measures.

FEMA’s Nonprofit “Security Grant Program” helps ensure the safety and security of Jewish institutions. The increased funding included in Biden’s Supplemental Budget Request will help bolster Jewish community’s capacity to protect itself at this challenging time.

Huh? Biden admin tried to sneak money to house illegal aliens in Hotels in NY in 2025. What does this have to do with US security assistance for Israel just after the Oct 7th massacre? I know. Jews, right? It’s always the Jews with you, Liz.
