CLEVELAND (WJW) — After closing Monday, the Cleveland Municipal Court will be closed to the public “until further notice” following a “cyber incident.”
Court spokesperson Ed Ferenc said in a Tuesday email to FOX 8 News that officials are still investigating and “working 24/7 in an effort to rectify the situation.”
In a statement Sunday, Deputy Court Administrator Mike Negray said that an investigation into the “nature and scope” of the incident had gotten underway.
While the situation was being assessed, the systems that were affected were shut down as a precautionary measure, Negray said. Those included internal systems and computer software platforms.

Sounds like ransomware.
“Sounds like ransomware.”
You beat me to it. “We’ll let you back into all your court records for only $10 million”
Yep. Ransomware. Cities are easy targets because of their softness and lack of critical infrastructure protection policies. Several have been hit, and have paid the ransom.
Happened to my vet and we all had to bring in our old paper records to help him get back up on historical records on all our pets. But courthouses! Can’t see many of their clients anxious to help preserve history for those courts.
Interesting. Thanks for posting.
Hey, it worked the first time!
I then realized after eight weeks, that I didn't need to be tethered to my cardiologist anymore. I have a monitor next to my bed that transmits my event data from my pacemaker to the cardiologists office. In eight weeks I didn't feel any different without such monitoring. (That was hacked too, the pacemaker in my chest).
I'm done with modern medicine for a while.
It’s easy to recover from ransomware if you do regular backups.
They aren’t difficult to do. It can be almost totally automated.
The the hardest part is if you are actually hit, and you have to make sure all your hardware is clean and clear before doing a data restore, and then figuring out what information may have been lost after the last backup.
Our city, Torrance, California, got hit with a ransom where attack a couple years ago. The city refused to pay the ransom. Yes, things were a bit confused for a while. But the city found that it had important back up files, which helped a lot. I guess the lesson there is, always back up your data.
Also, scour the backup because the ransomware may have been an Easter egg that was set to go off on a certain timeline.
"lesson is, always back up your data"
Oh wow....the pacemaker was hacked too?
That is beyond worrisome.
Agreed. I’m not entitled to know if it is read/Wright, or just read only. They won’t tell me when I ask, so I guess you know...
