When Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde lectured President Trump and Vice President Vance about immigration during her sermon at the National Prayer Service on the day after they were inaugurated, leftists hailed Budde for standing on principle and giving the Bad Orange Man a good scolding.
As it turns out, however, Budde may have motivations that were a bit more tangible than principle: her church’s Episcopal Migration Ministry (EMM) rakes in millions from a number of taxpayer-funded entities for bringing the migrants. And the Episcopal Church is by no means alone in this: other churches that have recently taken principled stances against Trump’s immigration policies are in on the gravy train as well.
The New York Post reported Friday that Budde’s “sermon to President Trump during an inaugural prayer service, coupled with her church’s advocacy for humanitarian immigration programs, reveals a striking hypocrisy — one that could be seen as self-serving and even a conflict of interest.”
This is because in 2023, EMM “earned $53 million from various taxpayer-funded government programs to resettle 3,600 individuals.” If Trump stops the migrant influx and ends the funding for such programs, the Episcopal Church could suddenly be facing a significant shortfall of cash.

It’s time the “churches” start paying their fair share of taxes. Politics have taken the place of God.

End the subsidies!
That works out to be 14,722 dollars per individual reloacted. I smell fraud.
“EMM “earned $53 million from various taxpayer-funded government programs to resettle 3,600 individuals.”
That’s almost $15,000 per individual to relocate them
Especially those huge mega churches and preachers like Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer and Kenneth Copland with his several bizjets ....
What wretched hive of scum and villainy, church and state
Tax The Churches!
They throw all the free money into the air. What God wants, He takes. What falls to the ground, they greedily keep.
No doubt into the billions for the biggest hogs at the law-breaking trough.
They WON’T BE FOR LONG!! GO TRUMP!! GO MUSK!!
That is over $14,700 for the church per “immigrant” the manage to get into the USA.
“””This is because in 2023, EMM “earned $53 million from various taxpayer-funded government programs to resettle 3,600 individuals.”””
The mainline churches have been losing members for 60 years.
These mainline churches still have many of their seminaries grinding out new theologians every year with the reality there are no churches to use their new preaching skills.
So instead the mainline churches create NGO’s that supposedly provide humanitarian aid and then go to Uncle Sam for grant money so the NGO’s can employ their newly minted seminary graduates.
And this is why many would not vote for Trump. It wasn’t because of “moral” reasons like they claim, it was because of dollars...
Human trafficking is big business. That a church does it does not make it anything other than human trafficking.
$14,722 per illegal. What a deal. I guess this is how the good pastor manages to afford a $2 million, six bedroom home in DC.
It needs to stop. Or restrict it to 100% US citizens.
Lutheran Social Services is in on the grift, too!
(Apologies to members of the Missouri Synod and the newer conservative Lutheran churches. They are not to blame—just the ELCA!)
If only these theology students would use their faith and knowledge to become Orthodox. Then they could contribute to our expansion!
Don’t forget about John Pavlolitz, Al not so Sharpton and Bishop William Barber the buffet slayer.
