In Kennesaw, Georgia, it’s against the law not to own a gun.
The city law, dating back to the 1980s, makes it a requirement for residents to own guns and ammo.
Kennesaw’s gun law states: “In order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition.”
The law excludes residents with mental or physical disabilities, felony convictions or conflicting religious beliefs.

Morton Grove, Illinois, became the first city in the U.S. to ban gun ownership, but Kennesaw became the first city to require it. Similar laws have been passed in at least four other U.S. cities: Gun Barrel City, Texas; Virgin, Utah; Nelson, Georgia and Nucla, Colorado.

If I recall, the first noticeable result of the law in Kennesaw was a precipitous drop in rape.
Kennesaw and Morton Grove have been compared for decades. I can remember reading about them nearly 40 years ago.
Wish all conservative states would do that! Liberals would be loath to move to them then lol
If I recall it originally had 180,000 population but once they started shooting each other there are now only 11 left, I might be wrong.
It’s called legalism.
Too many laws.
Not enough acknowledgement of freedom.
When laws are put on the books that are “statements” as referenced in the article, then the effect of law is diminished.
I wouldn’t want to live in either place.
I want my city council attending to local business such does the city operated water system have enough water supply, is the infrastructure being maintained, and are the police given the resources to keep folk safe and secure?
Kennesaw is a small town where rapes were rarely reported. Burglaries were the statistics that plummeted.
Also, this is Georgia. Almost everyone here is already armed, so the law didn’t actually have a marked affect on who owned guns. The law merely served as a wake-up call to those who would go to Kennesaw for misbegotten gain.

Georgia town not alone in using gun law as ‘deterrent’

The tricky question is Would you turn in your neighbor if you knew they didn’t have a gun? I’d give them a warning before I turned them over to the local NRA chapter!
The neighboring city of Acworth enacted a law shortly after the Kennesaw gun law that every home must have a rake in the garage. This neck of the woods surely has a ton of firearms. I also have a rake in my garage.
The law excludes residents with mental or physical disabilities, felony convictions or conflicting religious beliefs.
Population of Kennesaw is about 33,000, using the national average, there should be one or two murders a year.
But here’s the kicker, 24 PERCENT of the town is black, yet virtually no killings and little other crime. Much of that is probably because the blacks are also armed for self-defense.
Must have been that boat accident.

Did any other Texan not know about a town called Gun Barrel City, or just me?
Gun Barrel City, TX, Henderson, County voted 81% for Trump.
Of course, I knew. Here are a few more, so Jot ‘em Down - Frognot, Dime Box, Noodle, Ding Dong, Earth, Bigfoot and Uncertain. Squaw Mountain had to change it’s name to Lynn Creek two years ago but it was offensive but White Settlement and Whiteface haven’t.
Santa Anna (after the Mexican general/president we defeated at San Jacinto - go, grandpa who was one of the guys who captured him) was named wrong by the US Postal Service. Apparently, the post office was in charge of names at one time. Anyway, the community sent in the request to be named Santana after the Indian (sorry, Native American) chief, but the post office couldn’t read or were history clueless because they thought it was Santa Anna. It was too hard to correct so the town let it be.
BTT
I would mention No Trees, but, to my great disappointment, they had several trees there. 😞
