Marjorie Taylor Greene backs Johnson: ‘Let’s put aside the infighting’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Tuesday that she would be endorsing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) for House Speaker, a notable win for the Louisiana Republican given Greene has at times found herself at odds with him.

“Here’s what I’m asking my colleagues to do: Let’s put aside our pride, let’s put aside our egos and let’s put aside the infighting,” Greene said in a video posted on the social platform X. “It’s time to come together as Republicans, and it’s time to do whatever it takes to make sure that we deliver the mandate that the American people told us to do.”

“And that’s why I’m excited tomorrow. I cannot wait to get started. I’ll be voting for Mike Johnson,” she continued. “I will be looking ahead in complete hopefulness and working as hard as possible.”

Lawmakers are convening at noon to elect a Speaker, with Johnson hardly able to afford any defections as he looks to keep his gavel.

Right — she opposed Johnson on a vote, or a process.

She didn’t throw a tantrum and vote against him for Speaker.

MTG is 100% behind Trump. Johnson, just seems to be out for Johnson.

Johnson was never selling us out. That’s dishonest! The way the process works for some who don’t get it..... the President/Senate profers a bill, the House either confers on it, accepts or rejects it.

Knowing it would never pass and with a government shutdown within hours....he pushed forward the bill we all knew was DOA. Then countered with a 100 page CR with Trump’s approval, that would pass kicking the can down the road to the new congress.

Political neophytes need to be quiet.

P.S. Remember this, in the new budget, even if spending stays the same as last year.....without any increase in Federal spending, the US economy goes into recession because Federal spending is a quarter of the Gross Domestic Product. Pay close attention. Trump has very little wiggle room in the budget cutting or he triggers an stock market crash and economic downturn which the media will go crazy over.

There are those who expect Johnson to spin gold out of straw. Thomas Massie is a contrarian idiot.

That 1500 disgrace of a CR was not a compromise. that 115 page bill probably was.

that disgrace gave the Democrats everything they wanted, including immunity from punishment for their January 6 witch trials.

Johnson is way better then McCarthy, in that we can at least pressure him. McCarthy would not have folded on that disgusting 1500 page disgrace

This may be realpolitik at work.

Johnson may not be the person this country needs in that job, but he may be the best we can get. (That is how I read Trump’s response, where he appears to be poised to make the best of it no matter what)

The fact that a number of prominent Democrats endorse Johnson makes me cringe, but I have to keep in mind if even those endorsements are a political game, done deliberately by Leftists in order to turn the factions of the Republican Party in on itself.

In this environment, hard to figure much of anything that makes sense in this.

In any case, it is my opinion that the infighting does no good at this point, and it appears to be only harmful.

I think we should just see what happens.

We can get rid of him anytime, if he doesn’t come to Jesus.

This reminds me of the “all or nothing” approach to restoring the Second Amendment.

It everything all at once, or nothing. Those folks always ended with the same result: NOTHING.

The others were incremenatlist. Take what we can get now, then work for more. Eat the elephant one bite at a time. That is how we got 29 Constitutional Carry states. One at a time, incrementally.

If we had followed the “all or nothing” absolutists, we would still have NOTHING.

Nope.

He never had the power to do so. He never had the votes.

No, I am not talking today’s vote. I am talking in the weeks leading up to this and the public statements by some prominent Democrats. The Democrat leadership said leading up to this in the past few days Johnson wasn’t going to get any help from them today.

Nope he never even tried

The Origination Clause of the U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 7, Clause 1, requires that all bills for raising revenue originate in the House of Representatives

Kinda like Dennis Hastert, the former wrestling coach who became Speaker, that couldn’t seem to accomplish anything of substance in getting America’s finances on track? Was Mike Johnson ever a wrestling coach who coached like Dennis Hastert did? Or did Mike Johnson ever engage in activities like Dennis Hastert did when he was a coach?

There is no way that Johnson should be speaker. He is a slimy skinned snake. Yet here we are all boxed in and forced to vote for a devil because a good person cannot get the votes. Lets not forget that congress is still very full of evil people.
