Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP), says he will introduce a motion to topple Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government in the new year.
It marks a turn for the NDP leader, whose centre-left party helped prop up Trudeau's minority government in exchange for support on their shared political priorities.
He is the last of Canada's three main opposition parties to turn on Trudeau, meaning the prime minister is now unlikely to survive a non-confidence vote.
Singh's announcement comes at the end of a difficult week for Trudeau, who is facing growing calls to resign from his own Liberal Party following the exit of his most senior cabinet minister on Monday.
In a letter posted on X, Singh said, "the Liberals don't deserve another chance," and vowed to "put forward a clear motion of non-confidence in the next sitting of the House of Commons."
Canada's next election must be held on or before October. With the Liberals holding power with a minority government, a non-confidence motion could trigger an earlier election if most members of Canada's parliament vote in favour of it.
The House of Commons is currently on its holiday break but is scheduled to resume in late January.

Who’s behind this?
“It marks a turn for the NDP leader, whose centre-left party”
As in WAY left, commie to put it bluntly.
Not for a while. Parliament isn’t due to reconvene until after Trump is due to be sworn in. He may still have some tricks up his sleeve to stretch this out. Either way he has to call an election by around October next year.
a Canadian friend refers to him as the Maserati Marxist
NDP is extreme left party. But they hardly ever call anybody extreme left!
Apparently Trudeaus week of reflection amounted to nothing and earned him the boot. Ha!
Apparently Singh had a meeting with the NDP caucus and his MPs told him to stop propping up Trudeau and the Liberals. They are afraid that a Tory wave is going to take them out if the NDP didn’t break with Trudeau.
Even after the NDP ripped up the confidence and supply agreement with the Liberalls earlier this fall, Singh had his party support the Liberals in confidence motions EIGHT TIMES since then. Given the Liberals unpopularity, continuing that stance is going cost the NDP seats.
Got it. Thanks.
but they’re on taxpayer funded vacations right now ,LOL
And no one really likes Fidelito.
When you Sing with Singh, you often will get Stung.
Just think of the years that commie has been in power to ruin Canada.unreal
Pollievre has been smashing Singh daily. Looks like the pressure is finally getting to Singh.
No, no, no. At least not until after February 25, 2025.
See, ‘Jughead’ Singh MAY put forward a ‘no confidence’ vote, like he claims, but that will only happen AFTER his Parliamentary pension is vested on 02/25/25.
Parliament is not in session again, until after the Christmas break on January 27, 2025. Then, unless there is a MONEY vote required, there cannot be a ‘no confidence’, until an ‘Opposition Day’ is declared. There are, apparently, three per session. Castreau and/or his/her/its successor is unlikely to allow an ‘Opposition Day’ until VERYlate in the session thus, ensuing Singh’s $ multi-million pension.
AFA Castreau resigning? It is possible, but highly unlikely, IMO. Being the sociopath/psychpath that he is, in his addled mind, WE are all wrong about opposing his ideas. In his added mind
Mr. Speaker, I move for a vote of “No Confidence”.
The gov will not be happy.
Sorry, I posted my comment, in error, before it was complete.
I was listening to Ezra Levant a couple of days ago. He suggested that Castreau will not resign. Many of Castreau’s peers are advising that he resign, to try to salvage the ‘Liberal’ brand. The problem is, Castreau doesn’t feel he has ANY peers! All his advisors are mere ‘little people’, though slightly above the unwashed masses, the ‘hoi polloi’ of Canaduh.
I am reminded of all the memes showing Hitler castigating his staff, and the people of Germany, from the movie, ‘Downfall’! I see Castreau, like Hitler was at the end of that film, as the type that would ‘burn it all down’, if Canadians choose not to follow him.
Personally, I hope that sooner, VERY soon, rather than later, he ‘solves’ his popularity problem, as Herr Schickelgruber did!
At all.
