Republican state legislators in North Carolina are moving quickly to pass measures to restrict Democrat power over elections after likely losing its veto-proof majority in the state House.
While Republicans will maintain control of both the House and Senate in North Carolina, if election results remain where they are, the party is one seat shy of its veto-proof majority in the House. Additionally, Gov.-elect Josh Stein looks poised to be able to exercise more authority than his Democrat predecessor, Gov. Roy Cooper.
Both chambers passed a bill that would weaken the governor’s ability to oversee elections, in particular transferring the power of the governor to appoint members of the currently Democrat-run North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) to the state auditor, Republican Dave Boliek.
“The agility of the General Assembly was demonstrated this week as they passed important legislation, placing the state auditor in an oversight role over the state board of elections,” Jim Womack, president of the North Carolina Election Integrity Team (NCEIT), told The Federalist. “This puts the auditor in a good position to conduct an audit of our elections for the first time in history. That should encourage voters. “

Exactly.
FTA——Gov-elect Josh Stein is salivating to exert authority
over elections. Now both NC chambers passed a slapdown bill:
<><>that weakens the governor’s ability to oversee NC elections,
<><>that transfers the power to appoint NC State Bd of Elections members to the state auditor,
<><>the state auditor is Republican Dave Boliek.
BTTT
Republicans need to make sure that they don’t nominate a whack job candidate for governor in 2028 like the one they had in NC this year.
If ANY soul, regardless of political affiliation does not press for election integrity, they are election thievery sponsors if not straight up recipients.
Any gas-lighter that spouts the crap claims of racism in voter ID is the source of election COUNTING fraud.
The Republican candidate for governor - Mark Robinson, was effectively destroyed by “allegations” somehow dug up by CNN. Obviously, someone from the DNC handed the info to CNN. The sleaze was brought front and center by every democrat candidate in the state and every state Republican was billed as guilty by association.
It was sickening. Were the allegations true? Who knows for sure. Nobody cares anymore.
Good for the Republican legislature. Watch for the NC State Supreme Court, as I’m sure the democrat lawfare squad will be out in force to try and stop them.
The Republicans nominating Mark Robinson was an unforced error. It was a Republican year. They should have won, except for the candidate that they chose.
Why did they not do this when they had the majority?
“Why did they not do this when they had the majority?”
Maybe they had the same mindset as the Arkansas Traveler when it came to fixing his roof.
I should say the FARMER in the Arkansas Traveler.
Excellent.
I am highly suspicious of the race for judge on the NC State supreme court. The democrat was behind all along but it was close. And they kept counting and counting and counting and counting and now viola! A week and a half or two weeks after the election, suddenly she’s ahead. This I find extremely suspicious.
You know who gave the info about those allegations against Mark Robinson to the Democrats? RINOs. Yes. They deliberately sabotaged Mark Robinson in a desperate bid to hold on to power within the Republican party in this state. Both Robinson as well as several other Republicans who have been winning races the last few years have been solidly MAGA. RINOs remain enemy #1.
“Additionally, Gov.-elect Josh Stein looks poised to be able to exercise more authority than his Democrat predecessor, Gov. Roy Cooper.”
That would be the same Roy Cooper who for two years of the China Virus declared a state of emergency and ruled by Executive Order while brushing aside any attempt of the legislature to rein him in.
I’ve been reading some history, and the Constitution of Germany’s Weimar Republic had the infamous Article 48 that allowed the Reich President to declare a state of emergency and take action without consulting the legislature. This is the loophole that allowed Hitler to create a totalitarian dictatorship simply by declaring a perpetual state of emergency.
Hmmmm.
Top of my wish list is for the Republican majorities in the NC legislature to limit this power of the governor. Stein, of course, will veto it.
Maybe it would require amending the state Constitution.
They are weak Nancys as far as I am concerned. The base gives them majorities, and they squander what they have. So tired of Republican RINOs. Not only are they worthless, they are gutless as well.
Stein can veto that bill limiting his power, but the legislature can override.
