DOJ and FBI officials reach out to lawyers as potential Trump revenge prosecutions loom

Multiple current and former senior Justice Department and FBI officials have begun reaching out to lawyers in anticipation of being criminally investigated by the Trump administration, according to three people with knowledge of their deliberations.

Following Trump’s decisive election victory, many Justice Department officials and career staffers were already nervous about the possibility that they would be targeted by Trump loyalists, particularly members of Congress. But the selection of former Rep. Matt Gaetz, a firebrand Trump ally who was the subject of a recent FBI investigation, to lead the department has sharply increased the sense of alarm, the sources said.

“Everything we did was aboveboard,” said a former senior FBI official who has started contacting lawyers because he expects to be prosecuted himself. “But this is a different world.”

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of becoming even more of a target, doesn’t believe any attempt to prosecute him will be successful. Judges and juries have the power to throw out cases or find defendants innocent if they deem prosecutions to be baseless.

It's not retribution they should be worried about, but Justice.

No wonder they are lawyering up. With the almost impossible task of totally deleting electronic records and communications (and with Elon Musk on Trump's team), many in several government agencies are facing justice.

Why would they fear a fair trial?

Exactly. “Nobody is above the law” yada yada. This is simple justice for lying under oath, falsifying FISA warrants, lying to Congress, and wrongfully prosecuting people.

Put out word immediately that those lawyers will also be gone after. That’s what they did to Trump & Co., after all.

If they are innocent why would they think they would be facing a trial?

The power of the DoJ is its unlimited funds and its successes are due primarily to the inability of targets to be able to afford a sustained defense. Even if the retribution is simply draining the wealth of these bad actors, it will have been well worth effort.

I’m hopin’ they get to burnin’ the “judges”. Those bass turds have made it so an American CANNOT get a fair shake in ANY court in this craphole third world country. Especially if the damn “judge” is a foreign sweat hog like the majority of them are.

People need to understand that the true punishment of people facing things like this are legal fees.

Trump could never have survived the onslaught had he not been so rich.

Now with these others, who are not rich, they will be scrambling very hard to make the claim that their actions within their duties mean the government must indemnify them for legal fees.

IT IS THAT WHICH MUST BE COUNTERED. No DC court is going to convict them of anything so it is impoverishing them that must be the goal, and that means no reimbursement must be allowed.

They will be maneuvering hard on this matter for the next 2 months.

I don’t think they’re afraid of a ‘fair’ trial, but the process leading to their acquittals by the D.C. juries.

“Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, were shocked by Trump’s decisive election win. For the last four years, Garland has argued that strictly following post-Watergate norms that require the Justice Department to work in a nonpartisan manner in criminal investigations would restore public trust in the Justice Department.”

LOL.

Military tribunals, not juries. Waging war against the United States.

Give them a taste of their own medicine. They started it, but we’ll finish it. And they aren’t going to like it one bit.

If they committed no crimes why are they reaching out to lawyers now before even being investigated and charged?
