WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran successfully sought a meeting with Elon Musk, according to a U.S. official, one in a series of steps that appeared aimed at easing tensions with President-elect Donald Trump.
Iran’s U.N. Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani met with Musk — a Trump ally named this week to advise his administration on ways to cut the federal government — on Monday in New York, according to a U.S. official briefed on the meeting by a foreign colleague.
The official said he had been informed that the discussion covered a variety of topics, most notably Iran’s nuclear program, its support for anti-Israel groups throughout the Middle East and prospects for improved relations with the United States.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a non-U.S. governmental meeting, said no immediate decisions were taken by either side. The official said the Iranians sought the meeting with Musk, the world’s richest man, and that it did not take place at the Iranian mission to the U.N.

Trump has said he wants to negotiate with Iran. Trump’s only poison pill would be an Iranian nuclear weapons program. The Iranians DON’T want nukes. The Iranians don’t like being in a position with Israel where they actually need nukes.

The Iranian people have no problem with Israel. They would like nothing more than to topple the leaders.
By the time Trump is able to actually propose “a deal” Hamas and Hezbollah will be dead and literally destroyed in Gaza and Lebanon.
Absent surrogates to do the fighting, Iran is sidelined
Iran can easily be defeated. As we speak, they effectively have zero air defense. Israel’s F-35s saw to that, and can now, along with 4th generation aircraft, roam Iran’s skies at will. But the biggest reason Iran can be easily defeated longer-term is that the majority of Iran’s people hate the ruling Mullahs. Remove them, and their populace will take care of the rest.
As for your contention that Iran doesn’t want nukes? Umm…what? The mullahs are members of the cult that believes in the “12th imam”, who is hiding at the bottom of a well, and who can only crawl up out of the well and return at a time when the world is in great chaos (I know, but I didn’t make it up). Thus, they believe that if they can plunge the world into chaos and bloodshed they will pave the way for the return of their 12th imam. THAT, along with their belief that they can eliminate Israel in the process, is why they are pursuing nukes.

Obama and Biden didn't negotiate with Iran. They just sent money (pallets loaded with cash in Obama's case).
Trump understands negotiating. There's a carrot...and there a very ugly stick.

There are a lot of places around the world where a deal can be cut. There are two places where that can’t happen - Iran and China. Iran is just buying time until Trump is out of office. Trump needs to squeeze Iran, not deescalate.
