Donald Trump picks controversial MAGA loyalist to be his attorney general
Sky News ^ | Nov 14 | Sky News

Donald Trump has picked fiery Florida congressman Matt Gaetz to be his attorney general - a man who was under investigation over sex trafficking just days ago.

Democrats have described the MAGA loyalist as "a gonzo agent of chaos" and his appointment a "red alert moment for our democracy", while some Republican senators have also raised doubts about his suitability for the role.

Despite the cloud over his character - Mr Gaetz denies all allegations - he has repeatedly shown his loyalty to the president-elect, attending his hush money trial in Manhattan and vociferously calling out prosecutors.

The MAGA firebrand in the past has spread the conspiracy theory that the January 6 riots were actually orchestrated by the left-leaning group Antifa.

If he's going to lead the Department of Justice, the Florida politician needs to be confirmed by a Senate vote like other cabinet positions. That's where it could get difficult for him.

Trump is serious folks

Picks like this, Vance, Gabbard.

Going to be very different to his first term.

It’s a shame he cannot go on & on and only has the 4 years.

A wild guess says that 90% of the pundit class are driven loony tunes, by Matt Gaetz as Trumps new Attorney General.

My take is that the Matt Gaetz appointment is a test probe, to see how the US Senate approval process will go for controversial Trump appointees. Matt Gaetz will get a recess appointment that lasts 2 years, if the Senate denies him.
____________
____________
____________

Recess appointments are temporary appointments made by the President to fill vacancies when the Senate is in recess. The duration of a recess appointment is determined by specific constitutional and legal provisions:

Duration of Recess Appointments
A recess appointment expires at the end of the Senate’s “next session”13.
The exact duration can vary depending on when the appointment is made:

If made between sessions of Congress (intersession recess), the appointment expires at the end of the next session3.
If made during a recess within a session (intrasession recess), the appointment lasts for the remainder of that session plus the entire next session3.

In practice, this means a recess appointment can last for almost two years3.
Examples of Duration
An appointment made during an intersession recess could last about 11 months3.
An appointment made during an intrasession recess could last up to 22 months3.

It is also quite possible that the Trump train will run over Thune. Trump's got a mandate and I think his mandate is only going to get stronger as his transition picks up steam.

I will be shocked if they did deny him as he’s a congressman although not their flavor admittedly they usually get through.

Could be close.

It’s always “controversial” when they don’t like it.......which tells me it’s an inspired nomination.

The liberal media is on life support.....they just don’t know it yet.

Senate confirmations in general may be a problem. IMHO Thune as majority leader will be of little help when it comes to getting confirmation votes for some of Trump's nominees. Gaetz and Hegseth come to mind.

I'm sorry to say that I have little confidence that enough republican Senators will vote/support Trump's picks. RINO and establishment republicans will likely vote no on a number of Trump picks. Should we expect anything different?

“the conspiracy theory that the January 6 riots were actually orchestrated by the left-leaning group Antifa.”

That statement is “without evidence.” Everyone knows the FIB and other federal agencies, as well as Nanzi Pelousy et al. were also in on it up to their eyeballs.

Or alternatively “an attack dog with sharp teeth capable of mortal injury”

“It is also quite possible that the Trump train will run over Thune.”

Time will tell. Thanks to Elon Musk we have Twitter to expose these RINO Republican shenanigans in the US Senate. When Thune and Company refuse to approve Trumps appointments.

We can raise heLL via Twitter-X...... To make Thune etc back off and back down. To approve Matt Gaetz and others SWIFTLY!

Actually, Trump has only two years to exert maximum MAGA force.

The House majority is slim and may be gone after two short years.

The progressive cancer must be totally destroyed in only two short years.

Gaetz is a natural interrogator and would be an excellent AG.

The question as I see it is, can Thune read the writing on the wall?

He claims he can. We’ll see.

President Trump has had four years to plan for his comeback (revenge) and I have full faith in him that he has everything planned out and didn't miss a thing in his planning.

My veteran son told me "I feel like there is hope" and I said "Yes, there is finally hope."

He had the pleasure of meeting the President when he flew in to Afghanistan for Thanksgiving. He lifted their spirits that day.

Our veterans need his guidance like nothing anyone could ever imagine.
