Opinion - Say Goodbye to Hollywood’s Progressive Prosecutor (Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón)
MSN---- WSJ ^ | 11-8 | Opinion by Will Swaim

When you think of Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón’s landslide loss on Tuesday, you should hear the sound of a sad fluegelhorn. Only L.A.’s criminals will be sorry to see him go.

Mr. Gascón’s staff rebelled, crime spiked, and the public mood soured. Within three months he faced a recall backed by his own prosecutors and victims’ rights groups. That effort failed, as did a subsequent recall, due to a lack of qualifying signatures.

But then he drew the line on that sort of compassion: “Our system of justice can’t continue to rely on policies that create more victims tomorrow simply because some victims want the maximum punishment imposed in their case today.”

His philosophical preferences translated into rising crime. The city’s homicide rate is now nearly twice the rest of the state. But data fail to describe adequately the personal terror Angelenos experience every day.

A year into Mr. Gascón’s tenure, his office approved probation for a gang member with a catalog of past convictions. Back on the streets, the man kidnapped a woman in a local motel and then shot to death two police officers attempting to rescue her. He was finally shot and killed by another officer. Families of the gangster and the slain police officers blame Mr. Gascón.

Elected in November 2020, after the George Floyd summer, Mr. Gascón immediately delivered a menu of “restorative justice” policies. He told his nearly 1,000 prosecutors—the largest district attorney’s staff in the nation—there would be no more sentencing enhancements, no more use of the death penalty, no more cash bail. He ordered them to seek diversion programs rather than prison time wherever possible and to end the prosecution of minors in adult courts.

He may have to hitch a ride on Soro’s private jet out of the country before the dust settles.

Ousted Gascon was full of compassion.....for criminals:
“Our system of justice can’t continue to rely on policies that create more victims (criminals) simply
because innocent victims (harmed by criminals) want the maximum punishment imposed in their case.”

NO.

Winning would have been defeating him before that kidnapped woman and 2 cops got murdered and God knwos how many other 1000s were terribly affected by his decisions.

This is righting a wrong that should have never happened.

Gascon is a telling and damning revelation of the hardened, illogical mind of the modern “woke’ practitioners.
These minds have been shaped by years and years of indoctrination by the fake soft sciences propaganda, media, schools, and misled parents among other influences.
We’re going to need a whole 2 generations to get rid of the mind poison spouted by “progressives”

This is progressive politics to a tee. They push and push leftward under the banner of some or another cause (justice, injustice, inequity, disproportion, social ill etc) and keep pushing until it breaks. Then sane people are driven to rise up and undo it.

Progressives gave us Prohibition which then brought crime and violence. They gave us eugenics which brought abortion of mostly black children. They gave us biological boys competing against girls which is not just at all - and most people don’t really care if one person “feels” or “believes” they are in the wrong body they just don’t want their feelings imposed on the rest if us. We wouldn’t tolerate it if one religion tried to impose their beliefs on everyone else. They gave us sex change on children which is shown to at least as much if not more harmful to dysphoric children than doing nothing. They gave us guys like Gascon giving early release to extremely violent felons which led to of course more violence. They gave us reduced penalties for shoplifting under $950 and that resulted in, of course, a spike in shoplifting. They gave us decriminalized drugs which has led to cities filled with homeless zombies, needles and poop.

At some point the citizens will have to realize that sure we have inequities and injustices and issues to face, but let’s stop getting our solutions from hard core progressives. It’s like we forget that just about every time the public is swayed by sometimes reasonable issues worthy of attention, but when their more radical solutions are implemented there is an equal and opposite negative reaction.

Build Back Better meant destroying the country and building it back in their Marxist image.

“They gave us decriminalized drugs which has led to cities filled with homeless zombies, needles and poop.”

I despise drugs and was happy to just vote no on marijuana legalization here. The legalization forces were very well funded. I heard their revolting advertisements all the time. Every state that legalizes marijuana, makes their illegal marijuana markets larger. And makes all illegal drugs more common, more easily purchased. And laws against them not enforced.

Trump voted yes on marijuana legalization. He did not want to lose the libertarian stoner vote nationwide.

The illegal market is bigger after legalization because all the fees, taxes, bureaucracy and overhead put a floor on the price of legal weed. That leaves plenty of room for profit in the black market while the dealers can still undercut the prices in the pot shops.

YES.

But amazingly, the young vote wasn’t as horrifyingly out of whack as I thought it would be.

So yes, 2 generations and we could get back to some kind of normacly.

Boy that’s gonna be hard.

They are entrenched.
