Voters across the country weighed in on ranked choice voting ballot initiatives Tuesday, with a vast majority rejecting the system amid an intensifying debate over its effects on elections.
RCV, which allows voters to rank candidates by preference rather than selecting only one, has faced mounting opposition at both state and local levels. This year’s election results featured a mixed outcome, with state-level ballot measures predominantly failing but some cities voting to adopt or maintain RCV.
Here are the major takeaways from RCV ballot initiatives from the 2024 election:
Measures to implement RCV in Oregon and to introduce RCV and open primaries in Colorado, Idaho, and Nevada all failed.
Missouri went even further, with voters passing a measure to ban RCV altogether. These setbacks for RCV advocates reflect a growing resistance against the system’s complexities and a belief that it can distort election outcomes in favor of special interests.
A notable example of voter pushback came in Alaska, where RCV had only been in place for a single election cycle before voters were asked this year whether to repeal it. As of Wednesday afternoon, the vote to repeal was slightly ahead with about three-quarters of the vote counted.
Alaska’s case became emblematic of voter frustrations with the new voting style, which some say led to confusion and questioned the integrity of election outcomes.

Thank goodness. RCV another liberal hobby horse = monumentally stupid and counterproductive idea
RCV = “Keep Voting Until The Democrat Wins”
“Ranked-choice voting” (”rigged-choice voting) is unconstitutional and should be forbidden.
One of the few constitutional powers the feds have over the states is,
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government”
U.S. Const., Art IV, Sect. 4)
A republic is a representative form of gov’t and “ranked choice voting” is not representative.
I’m really glad it failed here in CO.
But the funny thing is it had a lot of liberal opposition to it. The CO Dem Party opposed it and so did Dem Sen. Bennett, Women’s League of Voters and several other lib orgs.
a CO ping for your consideration
It flamed out here in Idaho, 70 to 30.
Now Alaska needs to get rid of their Ranked choice voting.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) gives mediocre politicians an advantage. It punishes politicians who are considered “extreme” or “polarizing”. The Founding Fathers would have been considered extreme and polarizing.
When I think of RCV, I think of Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski. The epitome of mediocracy.
Ranked Choice hamstrung Palin...kept her from winning
Still on maine and deeply hated.
Leftists put it in place
It’s sponsors of that spent a lot of money on very deceptive radio advertisements. I thought more dumb ass voters would fall for it. I am so glad that they didn’t.
Did you notice the purple hue to the commercial? Once I got the reference, I got madder and madder every time I saw it and that was usually 4 or 5 times a day!
The state symbol at the end was the state shape, a purple square with a red corner and a blue corner. 🤨
I saw their ads on youtube. Never saw an opposition ad. Had to do an internet search to find the pros/cons and supporters/opposition info.
Tried to find out who Owen Clough is, the “registered agent” whose name was on every ad for it. He’s some lawyer who is partner in a firm with one other lawyer in Aurora. No pics of him anywhere and no bio at all. I’m assuming he was just a paid middleman.
FWIW Chickenpooper was a supporter. Even by Dem standards that guy is a weasel.
Outside entities and groups have spent a TON of money in Alaska, trying to convince people to keep RCV. The funny thing is that supposedly RCV is supposed to stop the big money outside interests from influencing that elections.
I hope our people up here aren’t pathetic enough to fall for it.
That’s what they say. In reality though, the big parties only need to put forth & support 1 candidate, and it’s exactly the same. Nothing is changed and only confusion is added.
Thank goodness it failed in OR. Basically almost all rural and smalltown voters are conservative. I vote “no” on every ballot measure that raises taxes or wants to fix something that ain’t brok.
Greeting!! Even a blind pig etcetc .Interesting demsheviks voted against it.
