President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Wednesday to give $19 million in grants to schools that serve Hispanic students.
The University of Puerto Rico's Rio Piedras Campus received $5 million of the share, with four other schools across Florida, Illinois, and Texas sharing the rest. This money is part of the Education Department's Research and Development Infrastructure Grant Program, which has a fund of about $49 million to split among historically black, tribally controlled, and minority-serving colleges and universities. This latest allotment comes with less than a week until Election Day.
Since Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office, Puerto Rico's colleges and universities have received over $1.1 billion in government funding, behind Florida, Texas, and California in the top five recipient states. The administration awarded over $16 billion nationwide.
This comes as the Harris campaign has scrambled to rally Latino voters in recent days since former President Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden. There, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a joke about Puerto Rico that was poorly received. UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal said he believed Harris’s record was worse than the joke. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona vaguely referred to the joke and this new executive order in a post to X.

“Donald Trump has no character. He doesn’t give a damn about the Latino community…just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage?…The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”
Race based grants are illegal....but it’s done all the time.
The EPA even had a lawsuit against Puerto Rico for their “garbage” problems.
Flagrant waste of tax payer money it’s why the party keeps raising taxes.

The House is supposed to be in control of funding.
We should not have any government school funding for a race or foreign language.
PR stepped on their crank when they ran the US Navy out in the early 2000s.
I was there supporting the Navy 6 months before that happened and could see how much money the Navy infused into the economy.
There’s no telling how many tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars they forfeited by doing that.
Well, they Vieques back, I hope they’re happy.
They really need the money to buy some more space for landfills. All their landfills are full and they are out of space for new ones. Maybe they can take their garbage to Haiti. The Haitians have all moved to America and aren’t using the island anymore.
Trump should force the spotlight on Puerto Rico. He should put the state hood issue front and center. Offer up a Marshall Plan for PR that should occur over the next 5 - 10 years. Outline a plan to clean up that country and put forth an economic plan that could really make a difference. Make them defend the shithole that currently exists. Force the conversation to make people look to the future.
Trump should focus on freeing Cuba.

What a coincidence.
For as long as I can remember, Puerto Rico has held plebiscites for the citizens to ostensibly vote for or against U.S. statehood. It’s always been voted down in favor of “Independencia” because statehood would impose accountability on these people who would have to become productive members of society and who would no longer be allowed suck off the welfare tit of the U.S. as they have been doing for forever. I find it ironic that there are so many cars in Tampa FL with the Puerto Rican flag hanging from the rear view mirror. There’s just a ton of them down here. And they love their current status too much to ever want to change it.
