ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Republicans hoping to represent Pennsylvania in D.C. campaigned in Allentown Friday. Dave McCormick wants to unseat Sen. Bob Casey, while state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie is challenging Congresswoman Susan Wild.
McCormick and Mackenzie toured Latino-owned businesses, including El Mercadito and Monchy's/The 8th Street Food Market.
"I think what everybody's struggling with is the economy, inflation," said a worker at El Mercadito in Allentown.
"He was saying that legal immigrants are opposed to the open border," said McCormick at Monchy's.
"The number-one message that they're telling us is that they are struggling with inflation and high prices, and so as a candidate for Congress, I offer real change," said Mackenzie.
"Vote Republican, because that's the only way of changing things," said Zoraida Buxó, U.S. Shadow Senator of Puerto Rico.

Conversations also sparked on the streets.
“They’re telling me I should be voting based on race. It’s not about race. It’s about the economy,” one man walking by told McCormick.
“I’m with you. Thank you, brother. Thank you,” McCormick replied.

Allentown (Billy Joel)

The song hit me kinda hard because I grew up in town just like Allentown. Plenty of mill jobs one day (including mine), then none the next day.
Notice that Joel rather boldly took a swipe at the union.
So the graduations hang on the wall
But they never really helped us at all
No they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke, chromium steel
And we’re waiting here in Allentown
But they’ve taken all the coal from the ground
And the union people crawled away
Dr Jill says be sure to visit the “bogatas” and to order breakfast tacos.
Workin’ at it . . . . . workin’ at it !
