Three immigrants to America have won the 2024 Nobel Prize in economics, illustrating continued contributions by immigrants to the United States. The three immigrants—one from Turkey and two from the United Kingdom—are affiliated with U.S. universities. Immigrants have been awarded 38%, or 45 of 117, of the Nobel Prizes won by Americans in chemistry, medicine and physics since 2000, according to an analysis by the National Foundation for American Policy (updated through the 2024 awards). Immigrants also have been awarded 31% (24 of 78) of the Nobel Prizes won by Americans in economics, including 28% since 2000.
The 2024 Award In Economics
“This year’s laureates in the economic sciences—Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson—have demonstrated the importance of societal institutions for a country’s prosperity,” according to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences press release issued for the 2024 Nobel Prize in economics. “Societies with a poor rule of law and institutions that exploit the population do not generate growth or change for the better. The laureates’ research helps us understand why.” The economics award originated in 1969 and is formally named the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Daron Acemoglu was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of York, followed by an MSc. and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. He came to America in 1993 and became an economics professor at MIT. He coauthored with James Robinson Why Nations Fail and the Economic Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy. In 2023, he coauthored with Simon Johnson the book Power and Progress: Our Thousand-Year Struggle Over Technology and Prosperity.

I somehow doubt they paid Mexican cartels to bring them through a hole in the border fence in El Paso, and I also bet they aren’t on welfare and food stamps.

Journalists are like robot. They have a selective and censored hearing. When they hear the word “illegal” followed by “immigrant”, then “illegal” is dropped automatically.

That's the big difference between legal & illegal immigrants. but Stuart Anderson is being very deceptive by not distinguishing that these are legal immigrants he is talking about. The argument is not about immigrants, it is about those immigrants who break the law to come here are not the immigrants that are likely to be productive, even though a percentage will indeed be productive.
Forbes should be ashamed of himself for not taking this deceptive reporter to task for his deception.

It was wholly unnecessary to include the term ‘immigrants’ in the title. It was done solely for propaganda effect.

None of them went to grade school or high school in The United States. Yes, but if you look at the bulk of Nobel Prize winners for science, most of them were from people EDUCATED in the USA.
We tend to ridicule the American education system but really, despite the many lousy public schools, it isn't that bad.
According to the PISA organization, which administers standardized tests across countries, the US ranks about average in Reading, Math and Science (slightly lower in Math, above average in Science) compared to other economically developed states.

The next question to ask is if the difference is substantial and significant. In science, the top ranked country, Japan, scored 538, while the US scored 496. The standard deviation in scores is about 95 points. The EU scores the same as the US at 495.
More US students, however, report that they “enjoy” science than Japanese students.
US students are much stronger than Japanese in epistemic attitudes toward science (for example the belief that “a good way to know if something is true is to do an experiment”). US students also rank higher in motivation to learn science, interest in science, reading science books and watching science shows.
Also not all differences are meaningful. For example, in reading the US is not statistically different from many of the countries that supposedly rank higher (Netherlands, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, France, Belgium, Portugal, UK, Taiwan, Spain, Russia, China, Switzerland.)
It certainly cannot be said that Europe’s education standard is “far higher” than the US; in fact, the opposite seems to be true for most European countries according to this ranking. It also makes it rather entertaining to read the other answers, particularly the ones taking the superiority of European education over the US as fact, which is in direct contradiction to the actual research data.
What’s really interesting is the average American’s performance on the PISA test based on race:

In this ranking, Asian Americans would’ve ranked 1st overall if they were a country, higher than even Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan. White Americans would’ve ranked 4th in the world (excluding Asian Americans), higher than the highest-ranked European country of Estonia and just below the three aforementioned Asian countries. This list even excludes 1st- and 2nd-generation immigrants, who are typically much more educated than the average American population.
On the other hand, Latino Americans and Black Americans would have ranked lower, at 32nd and 41st respectively. This seems to suggest that prioritizing concentrated investment for those two groups would help close the gap and significantly increase the overall average for the US.

In The United States, you have the freedom to choose which university you want to attend.
You can choose what to study at the university.
Perhaps our freedom explains our success.
I was writing about grade school and high school.

Education is a process.
It is a system.
We have gone on for years without really discussing the education process.
This has allowed unscrupulous people to take advantage of us.
College…..education…..is a big racket.
People make a lot of money off it.
People also use it for political indoctrination.

RE: I was writing about grade school and high school.
The PISA test scores are about grade school and high school.
Also, we still have on average the BEST STEM universities in the world ( yes, despite the idiotic soft courses these universities provide ).
And speaking about PISA scores. One Long Island university did a deep dive into the ETHNIC background of those who tested highly on the PISA scores in Nassau County.
They found out that the ASIAN KIDS in Nassau County scored HIGHER on average than the Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese and Korean kids in the PISA math and science scores.
This was also true of Jewish kids but NOT TRUE of black and Hispanic kids. Is this a racist study?

I’m sure we all understand the word “immigrant” means an alien residing in the US lawfully - usually with a green card, sometimes for some other lawful reason. The widespread misuse of the word “immigrant” has become an epidemic.

They’re even dropping “immigrants”, now it’s just the more innocuous “migrant.

Of course, propaganda is their only agenda.
Forbes used to be a decent business mag, Now, like most everything else, it has been taken over by the left who turned it into a leftist rag.
