Some right-leaning voters who oppose Donald Trump are thinking of voting neither for him nor Kamala Harris.
I understand how they feel. In 2016, I published an article urging Never Trump conservatives to consider casting their ballot for a third-party candidate. In the election that year, I did just that.
regret writing that column. I regret casting that vote.
To people like me, Trump represented a repudiation of everything that Ronald Reagan stood for. But as a conservative and former GOP staffer who had never voted for a Democratic presidential candidate, I harbored reservations about Hillary Clinton.
Voting for neither Trump nor Clinton seemed to be a “safe” way to express disapproval of both. Most polls at the time showed her on track to win comfortably. It seemed reasonable to argue that a significant tally for a third-party candidate might check her liberal ambitions. After all, the number of votes for Independent candidate Ross Perot in 1992 may have nudged Bill Clinton to accept bigger budget cuts than he wanted.......
We do know what happened because he won. He blew up the federal debt. His incompetent handling of COVID-19 caused tens of thousands of needless deaths. He finished his term by trying to overturn an election he lost and instigating a violent rebellion against the government he had sworn to protect.
Trump turned out to be a catastrophe for our country. Hillary Clinton just was a candidate with whom I disagreed, I wish I had voted for her and encouraged others to do the same.

Yeah barf
This person lives in the DC bubble and can't see past the tidal pool..................
He worked for Dick Cheney and left the Republican Party when Trump won.
He is a war mongering 70 year old white man.
Know your enemy.
We don’t discourage posting liberal article here, for discussion.
How do you know what they are saying if you censor them?
We don’t like censorship
With this article, John J. Pitney Jr. proves beyond any doubt that he is a liar, or a complete blithering idiot, unable to grasp the simplest logical thought.
Or both.
I hope that John J. Pitney Sr. is no longer around to see his namesake’s failure as a rational being.
What’s kinda comical about this is that before Trump, I had been a “Reagan” republican until I left the party in dubya’s second term.
I now consider Trump to be the best president in the last 100 years or more. I don’t judge politicians by what they say. I judge them by what they do.
Why would this author vote for Kamala? Why would he NOT vote for Trump?
Couldn’t have said it better.
KamaLOL was on the podcast 'All The Smoke' yesterday.
The airhead couldn't explain how a bill becomes law.
check his basement for missing kids...
Wasn’t he on the original Star Trek? (hint: he wasn’t on the Enterprise)
Looking at the Trump 45 record, I would say Reagan would approve.
Lower Taxes, stopping immigration (Yes, Reagan was also trying to do that), No to Obamacare, appoint conservative judges.
Take a leading role in NATO, solve Israel conflict (Trump got pretty close, the best anybody before).
Quickly and decisively crushed Islamic state.
Scared all our enemies.
Can somebody tell me what would Reagan NOT approve?
A Kamala voter. Still a Never Trumper.
The msm has the podium everywhere everyday. They are heard….unfortunately.
“Pitney was born in 1955, the son of a milkman and a homemaker.”
I guess his father was OK with the milkman “taking care of business” for him...
Not sure, but by his picture, did not look like the kind of “guy” that would vote for Trump let alone be a patriot.
"Pitney was born in 1955, the son of a milkman and a homemaker."
The milkman might still be alive...
I guess Mr. Pitney forgot ‘tens’ of thousands of people died of Covid under Trump, after China left us with no PPE, but over 700 thousand died under Biden in spite of the fact Trump left Biden better equipped to prevent deaths.
And, Clinton Still claims she won the election 8 years after her defeat.
And, the federal debt when Trump left office was $21T, up from $14T, or an increase of $7T, but the federal debt under Biden has ballooned to $34 Trillion dollars, an increase of $13 Trillion dollars, or almost two times the increase under Trump.
What an idiot.
