I’m noticing this across the board though. And I get around a lot and hear it from other organizations as well. Wherever I go, story is always the same.

I got my BSEE in a 5 year coop program. Worked 3 months in a major related field, then school for 3 months, etc. By the time I graduated I’d worked in 3 different industries and had picked the one I wanted to stay with. No regrets. Plus I made decent money in the work quarters.

throughout their education journey

When did everything become a "journey"? I've heard of so many lately: faith journey, health journey, parental journey, relationship journey -- now also education journey.

Is anything just, there, anymore?

I’ve noticed this with the Gen Z types. They either really have their act together or they are absolutely clueless, there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground. I have met several of these kids who really have it together, they probably were home schooled.

Yep, a lot of bosses are sticklers for employees showing up and working. They are so uncompassionate about allowing workers taking 4-5 day weekends after texting in their plans to not come in.

Possibly partly true, but how many of these folks both complain about how much they have to pay and complain about the poor quality of the people they hire?

You get what you pay for, and you deserve what you get. The STEM folks I know who have recently graduated have a work ethic, communication skills, and the ability to think ahead. They also aren’t going to work for the mere peanuts that a lot of these ‘leaders’ think they can pay, not even enough to buy a house and start a family.

I laugh in the face of the people who say they ‘can’t hire good employees’. No, they don’t want to *PAY* for good employees.

The free market works just fine; if you don’t have the employees you want, you aren’t paying enough, just as if you don’t have the job you want you don’t have the qualifications and experience to deserve it.

Today’s colleges are political organizations, they’re not in the business of educating these poor saps.
They only want Daddy’s money to further their democrat agenda. It’s been this way for a decade, or more.
These are over-schooled, undereducated morons. No one in their right mind would hire them.

I'm a hiring manager in my workplace and it's hard to find young talent these days. I incline towards older workers more of my generation as even though they are close to retirement, they put in a full day's work and don't call in sick.

The amount of absenteeism among my younger workers is staggering. They use every little excuse to not come to work on a given day. Even worse, they sometimes have their mothers calling in sick for them. This would have been unheard of when I was coming into the workforce. Even if my wife called in sick for me, I would have resigned out of embarrassment.

I work with a kid who’s Gen Z, and he’s as useless as tits on a boar hog.

Wants to take the easy way, always crying about having the AC on, and always on one of his three phones.

Lack of communication skills and poor professionalism.

It’s expected college graduates were not educated for the business world but more for socialism and Marxism way of doing business.

The smart ones understood what was needed for success in the business world.

Excerpt...and not surprising...

“Although they may have some theoretical knowledge from college, they often lack the practical, real-world experience and soft skills required to succeed in the work environment,” Nguyen said.

Unlike their older counterparts, Gen Z suffers from the public perception that they are chronically limited by short attention spans, a habit of laziness and insistence on a robust work-life balance — a byproduct of growing up in a digital world.

Younger workers are also seen as more likely to be “triggered” and galvanized by social media-driven political and social campaigns that could disrupt the workflow and create headaches for their bosses — particularly in light of the national turmoil witnessed in recent years.

Half of employers said Gen Z workers were most likely to display a lack of motivation, while 39% said they lacked communication skills, the survey found.

Nearly half (46%) said Gen Z workers showed a lack of professionalism on the job.
