Many companies have fired Gen Z workers just months after hiring them and several business owners said they are hesitant to bring on recent college graduates due to concerns about their work ethic, communication skills and readiness to do the job, according to a new survey.

Six in 10 employers said they have already let go recent college graduates this year, while one in seven said they are inclined to refrain from hiring new graduates next year, according to a survey conducted by Intelligent.com.

Close to 1,000 business leaders participated in the Intelligent.com survey, the results of which were first reported by Newsweek. Some employers said they are deterred from hiring Gen Z to work at their companies due to lack of communication skills and poor professionalism, according to a survey. Some employers said they are deterred from hiring Gen Z to work at their companies due to lack of communication skills and poor professionalism, according to a survey. “Many recent college graduates may struggle with entering the workforce for the first time as it can be a huge contrast from what they are used to throughout their education journey,” Intelligent’s chief education and career development adviser Huy Nguyen said in the report.

Homeschooling for the win!

Excellent communication skills, respect for authority (after parents stop being buddy).

I’m noticing this across the board though. And I get around a lot and hear it from other organizations as well. Wherever I go, story is always the same.

I got my BSEE in a 5 year coop program. Worked 3 months in a major related field, then school for 3 months, etc. By the time I graduated I’d worked in 3 different industries and had picked the one I wanted to stay with. No regrets. Plus I made decent money in the work quarters.

throughout their education journey

When did everything become a "journey"? I've heard of so many lately: faith journey, health journey, parental journey, relationship journey -- now also education journey.

Is anything just, there, anymore?

I’ve noticed this with the Gen Z types. They either really have their act together or they are absolutely clueless, there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground. I have met several of these kids who really have it together, they probably were home schooled.

Um….did anyone check out the front organization behind this self-serving “survey”?

Surprise! Intelligent.com makes money from - wait for it! - students and recent graduates!

This “survey” is prolly as honest as a DNC poll showing Harris up by 23%.

Beer bashers from big state sports schools can likely perform better than ‘graduates’ who can only halfway communnicate via text messages and memes.

At least the partiers have some common sense and are grounded enough to know you have to show up to work.

BME, coop plan, can’t recommend it enough.

God son just finished his last coop work semester working for Delta. If you are flying Delta and have the new in flight WiFi, he may have had a hand in it.

Haven’t you heard? Life is a journey not a destination. That’s why these idjets can’t seem to buckle down and get to work. Sorry because so many young people are getting into the skilled trades and engineering; but if you read the story, it’s about the “graduates” who don’t have the sense to show up on time and actually seek to do some work. I recall a few years back reading numerous accounts of these pieces of deadwood at places like Google and Facebook etc who bragged about not doing a single lick of work during the day.

So like any generation, there is a major split in GenZ. Morlocks and Eloi.

Yep, a lot of bosses are sticklers for employees showing up and working. They are so uncompassionate about allowing workers taking 4-5 day weekends after texting in their plans to not come in.

My son, a Gen Z, got a $10,000 raise and a $2,000 performance bonus after just 6 months on the job. He’s already in the running for a promotion, which will bump him up to almost $100,000.

My middle child was already offered a teaching assistant position at college and hasn’t even graduated yet. Earned the highest scores in Microbiology program since before the pandemic (currently a 4.0 GPA for all semesters).

My little guy graduated high school with multiple academic achievements. He’s working on his driver’s license and starting college in the Spring. He’s my Asbergers baby, so we are taking things slower with him.

Not all Gen Z/Millennials are clueless. They had attentive parents.

Possibly partly true, but how many of these folks both complain about how much they have to pay and complain about the poor quality of the people they hire?

You get what you pay for, and you deserve what you get. The STEM folks I know who have recently graduated have a work ethic, communication skills, and the ability to think ahead. They also aren’t going to work for the mere peanuts that a lot of these ‘leaders’ think they can pay, not even enough to buy a house and start a family.

I laugh in the face of the people who say they ‘can’t hire good employees’. No, they don’t want to *PAY* for good employees.

The free market works just fine; if you don’t have the employees you want, you aren’t paying enough, just as if you don’t have the job you want you don’t have the qualifications and experience to deserve it.
