World leaders at the United Nation’s General Assembly on Tuesday urged Israel and Hezbollah to step back from the brink of all-out war after the death toll from Israeli airstrikes over two days rose to at least 569 people, including 50 children and 94 women, the deadliest such barrage in Lebanon in nearly two decades.
The airstrikes, which Israel says are targeting Hezbollah militants in eastern and southern Lebanon, on Monday alone also injured 1,835 people, Lebanese health authorities said Tuesday.
Israel’s military does not appear to be letting up in the airstrikes, declaring it will do “whatever is necessary” to push Hezbollah away from its border with Lebanon, so that Israelis can return to their homes in the region. Though Israel and Hezbollah have been trading strikes since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza last year, this week’s barrage threatens to push the region into a larger conflict, with world leaders pleading for a solution.
Speaking to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, President Biden warned against a “full-scale war” in Lebanon, urging a diplomatic solution.

They need to finish in Gaza, rather than expanding this war to another front.
It’s always “a reasonable response to aggression or oppression” when the bad guys do it.
It’s always “dangerous escalation that threatens a wider war” when the good guys do it.
Not enough.
Something I still can’t figure out is that the Hesbians and Hamass have been throwing rocks at Jews for so long, one would think that they could produce at least one minor league baseball player.
I had an older Jewish friend who liked to frequent a Lebanese restaurant.
He explained the owners were Christian refugees and they hate hate hate what the Muslims did to destroy their country.
I’m sure the Pope will get right on it.
Would not have happened but for Jimmy Carter.
Hezbollah has launched several thousand missiles into Israel in recent weeks/months.
Have any of these so called “World Leaders” called for Hezbollah to stop doing that?
I am somewhat reassured that they won't be able to get away with it this time, but I always have in the back of my mind that the problem has not been sufficiently addressed, especially in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
You mean you’re “convinced....”, not “unconvinced....”. Right? Re-read the sentence. Those double negatives can really mess with your mind.
Hezbollah getting what they deserve.
If Hezbollah militants had not been launching rockets into Israel for several months, there wouldn’t be a problem.
Hey, Hamas? You want your women and children alive? Quit Poking The BEAR! BiBi has shown GREAT restraint through the decades you have been poking at him and Israel.
Enough is finally enough!
Are they biologists
Have the world leaders sounded the alarm as Hezbollah pummeled Israel with rockets to the point that Israelis have had to evacuate for months? Perhaps I missed it.
Agree.
Terrorists come into Israel, break into private homes, spray gunfire into a music festival gathering, grab women on the sidewalks and tie them up in trucks. Kill hundreds and abduct hostages-—all of them non-combatants.
Revised statistic: The October 7 attacks on Israel killed 1,139 people, including 815 civilians.
A further 251 persons were taken hostage during the initial attack on Israel.
But IDF trying to rescue hostages and end terrorist leaders’ plans including ending the daily launching of missiles into civilian areas of Israel-——oh, too harsh sounding to the world leaders.
LOL! Good one!
Big Carbon Footprint in NYC this week; and at Stewart Int’l Airport.
+1 interwebs for you. /salute
Yeah. “hasn’t” should have been “has”.
War is Hell. When Hamas and now Hezbollah declared war on Israel they obviously didn’t worry about civilian casualties they might endure. Now that they are getting their asses kicked they want the world to force and end to it.
