Liz Cheney: Conservatives may need a new party
The Hill ^ | 09/21/24 | Juliann Ventura

Posted on 09/22/2024 9:38:47 AM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) indicated in an interview at The Capital Times Idea Fest in Madison, Wisc., that conservatives could end up forming a new kind of conservative party, arguing that “far too much has happened that’s too damaging” in the Republican Party.

“There is certainly going to be a big shift, I think, in how our politics work — I don’t know exactly what that will look like. I don’t think it will just simply be… the Republican party is going to put up a new slate of candidates and off to the races,” Cheney, an outspoken Trump critic, told The New York Times’ Peter Baker.

“I think far too much has happened that’s too damaging,” she added.

When asked by Baker whether she was suggesting that conservatives unhappy with the current state of the GOP will have to create a new party, she said, “It may well be.”

Cheney, who said earlier this month that she would be voting for Vice President Harris in November, added that she thinks most Americans don’t want “someone like Donald Trump to be the president.”

Cheney, a critic of Trump, said her comments are based on her time traveling across the country and talking to Democrats, Republicans and Independent. A vocal opponent to Trump, Cheney’s bipartisan efforts crescendoed in her support for Harris.

She added that people “want a president that kids can look up to” and someone who will “defend the peaceful transfer of power.”

“That’s where we have to start, whether it’s organizing a new party,” she said.

Well, there is a super important interview in a hugely watched media site, I’m sure. /s “The Hill” would quote her in bold headlines if she said this to even a high school newspaper.

What this country needs is much more honesty and integrity in our government servants and a whole lot less greedy power hungry sociopaths who are there to only serve themselves. Achieve that and call it the American Party. And no, I’m not a fool.

“...arguing that “far too much has happened that’s too damaging” in the Republican Party.”

She is absolutely right there. And she’s part of it. The republican party no longer backs its voter’s choices, and destructively tries to defeat itself with cowardice and placating decisions. There has never been a problem with the transfer of presidents in our history and nhey all got in on time. There has been a number of leaving presidents that were not happy, but it went smooth anyway as the system is designed for that. An example is saying Trump didn’t not accept the election results as he transfered right on schedule. So that’s a lie. The shift happened because the system worked. So are she blaming Trump for a successful transfer? She’s too stupid to realize it.

But I believe she is saying something very profound here. Actions of many, so called, based republicans has put a bad taste in many voter’s mouths. And the voters are responsing to them with record approval of Trump and his presidential achievements with record turnouts. And with all the manure going into polls he is still holding his own.

Does there need to be a new republican party? Yes...one with some cajones and the servicing of the people they represent. The current one isn’t.

Cheney’s dragging the GOP off the Whig cliff. The world is changing and she’s trying to keep the old 1950s Democrat Auxiliary Party model for the Republicans.

We do not have a parliamentary system. Our executive system can really only support two parties. One party that is for more centralization of federal power & one that is for decentralization of power - more power at the state level. Multiple parties can exist, but they eventually capture one of the major parties or they fade away. Originally it was the federalists (for constitution ratification) vs anti-federalists (against constitution ratification). They evolved into Federalists (strong Constitution interpretation) vs Ant-Federalists (weak constitution interpretation) continued through the Civil War period and continues to this day. The names are unimportant in fact they have bounced back and forth over time. Parliamentary systems are no solution either look at the mess Canada and the UK are in. The problem common to both systems is the evolution of a permanent governing class - the professional politician! Trump is an attack on that class. His successful governing showed how utterly unnecessary that class was and still is. That’s why he must be destroyed. Increasing the number of political parties in our system will do no more then ensure the dominance of whoever the current majority party is! A solution is term limits and getting the culture to stop being impressed by the resume of anyone who has spent their life doing nothing but politics. Examples: Rat one first; Schumer - he went into politics right out of college and has never left! Went into the NY Assembly right out of law school! GOP example: McConnell almost the same story! People who do that don’t deserve your vote they deserve to be laughed at! another example Slick William after law school he ran for the US House -lost! then Ark A.G.- won! Why? Someone please explain to me their reasoning to vote for a “wet-behind-the-ears” law school graduate to become the top state law enforcement official! Is that person’s vote and the position so worthless that it requires so little care and thought? There are plenty examples of this! Most of these problems we do to ourselves!

I propose that we amend the constitution.

Term limits.

One term in the Senate.

Three terms in the House.

6 years.

Cheney’s are today’s: nattering nabobs of negativism!.

Said Agnew: “In the United States today, we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism.

They have formed their own 4-H Club — The ‘Hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history.’!

I thought Liz and her daddy Dicky killed each other in a tragic quail hunting accident. I guess I need to start watching Joe and Mika in the morning and Stephen Colbert at night so I get the truth instead of some Russian disinformation, right Hillary?

Who will get her to shut up? Daddy Dick surely won't. It appears that he has made major concessions and allowances for a renegade daughter. Wonder just what all those might be? She is disgusting without even knowing the inside story.

I could support that. I would prefer repeal of the 17th Amendment. If you can’t get its repeal the state as an institution needs some say in the picking of its federal “ambassador “. Maybe the state legislature could OK a 2nd 6 year term for a senator.
