Declining birth rate threatens future U.S. economic growth.

The fertility rate in the United States has fallen by 3 percent since 2022. That is a historic low and marks the second yearly decline in a row. How will that impact the economy?

In the simplest terms, if you have lower population growth then you will have fewer people producing goods and services. That will result in slower economic growth. But it is not the only impact. A shrinking workforce will also mean there are fewer people paying taxes.

In a country like ours that has seen decades of increased spending and higher debt, the question becomes who will pay this growing obligation.

As our deficits expand at an increasing rate, while the birth rate continues to decline, there will be fewer and fewer people to pay off the nation's debt burden. The Heritage Foundation estimates that the total amount of debt that a baby born in 2007 assumes was $30,500. That figure almost doubled to more than $59,000 just 13 years later.

From 2014 to 2020, the birth rate consistently declined by 2 percent per annum, according to the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. Last year the birth rate in the U.S. reached a record low.

Just 3,591,328 babies were born, which indicates that the birth rate has now fallen below the replacement level needed for one generation to replace itself. This was not supposed to happen.

Experts will tell you that the COVID-19 pandemic was supposed to jump-start an increase in the American birth rate. The argument was that the lockdowns were forcing couples to spend a lot more time together indoors. That would lead to many a romantic evening and an increase in babies nine months later. The exact opposite happened.

The year 2020 hit a record low in the fertility rate at 1.6,

Economists say: US fertility rate is too low and this is going to cause a major demographic problem.

Bill Gates says: We need to drastically reduce the population and I have all kinds of ways to do it.

Well, we do have an increase in the population, though not thru births.

With some 20 million being let in by Kamala and Biden and democrats, we actually have a larger population, and growing.

Never mind that we’ll have fewer natural-born Americans.

The other problem is that, the migrants are or have become used to being taken care of by government, so, productivity from them can be called dead.

And, democrats (along with many republicans) don’t care about birth-rate slowing down, since abortions are so popular and likely we’ve lost those natural-born Americans to the abortion proponents.

I agree with title 100%…

but the American population will never go down because our model is to just bring in illegal immigrants so that American women can do what business wants them to do - go in the workforce.

So America is headed in the direction of South Korea, Europe, Japan, etc. - a place where the seed of the men who live there goes to die. Four grandparents yields two parents who will yield one child.

I will not let this happen twitch my offspring.

Ergo a brilliant plan by branDUHn/harris to replace that loss with migrants. Sheesh! Who would have thought...... Or is it due to an alleged growth in booteejudges realm?

The American man is demonized in our culture. A good example of that is Homer Simpson even though he is a funny character.

What all these article forget is there is a major difference between national GDP and per-capita GDP. Japan despite the population shrinking has continued to see increases in per-capita GDP. The undercurrent of the article is government spending is a Ponzi scheme. If more people is better than the US should have open borders and offer free tickets to anyone person who wants to come.

I am thinking that as the world population shrinks, the majority of Earths people will reside in the United States on democrat plantations, like the ones they are building in Ohio.

Russia and China had/have even worse declining birthrates, but only because they got into marxist social engineering decades for the USA did, and in a more obvious way

We are not far behind

And, BTW, Russia appears to be pulling out of its decline.

“... our model is to just bring in illegal immigrants “

Those immigrants are not “historical Americans” and the resultant culture will not be the historical American culture.

Perhaps there will be a cycle. Our immigrants will mess up America to the point that they’ll want to go back to their home countries.

They have cultural and national pride.

But their demographics suck.

The war in Ukraine is a disaster.

And no one knows what will happen to Russia after Putin.

Rome was the largest city in the world during Pax Romana. It declined to about 30,000 people between the second and sixth centuries AD.

America is heading in the similar path.

Changing the attitudes and culture of a nation takes generations.

Russia had at least 4 generations of extreme marxist materialist atheistic indoctrination. I imagine it will take at least 2-3 to fully escape it.

China is the same, although it does not have the surviving Christian roots which could provide the basis for a spiritual revival. China’s future course will be fascinating.

A version of this same indoctrination is occurring here, ie) certainly not as aggressive, but it is becoming increasingly top-down and state directed in the USA as well.

And we haven’t even begun the process of change yet.

IMHO - All just my cheap distillation of very complex historical trends....

So Putin needs to name a successor. And establish some sort of Constitution. Bringing back the Russian Tsar wouldn't be a bad thing (as the Head of the State).

Russia is still a nation of serfs ruled by a Czar and his Oligarchical nobility.

The current government is a reversion to the norm that persisted for hundreds of years
