Americans face shock new visa fee to enter the United Kingdom
The Daily Mail ^ | 18 Sep 2024 | Emma Richter

Americans planning to travel to the United Kingdom will have to pay a fee to enter the country starting next year.

The county's electronic travel authorization (ETA) fee will go into effect on January 8, 2025, according to the UK government.

US travelers will have to pay $13.05 (£10) to obtain the authorization which will be digitally linked to passports.

The authorization will be valid for multiple trips over two years for stays up to six months at a time, 'or until the holder's passport expires,' the government said.

US citizens can apply for an ETA starting on November 27, 2024 and should expect a response within at least three business days. Each traveler is required to have their own ETA, including all children.

'Everyone wishing to travel to the UK – except British and Irish citizens – will need permission to travel in advance of coming here,' according to the government.

Seema Malhotra, the United Kingdom's minister for migration and citizenship, said the new changes are part of a 'worldwide expansion' of the program.

'The worldwide expansion of the ETA demonstrates our commitment to enhance security through new technology and embedding a modern immigration system,' Malhorta said.

'Digitization enables a smooth experience for the millions of people who pass through the border every year, including the visitors we warmly welcome to the UK who are predicted to contribute over £32 billion to our tourism economy this year,' she added.

The country first introduced the ETA last year for visitors in seven Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates.

The UK also plans to expand ETAs to other countries and territories, including Canada, Japan, Mexico and Australia.

Why would I voluntarily travel to Oceania?

Why would any person with common sense want to travel to a SH!THOLE like the UK.

Unless your interested in some maniac black raghead chopping you up with a machete or want some enslaved white cooch.

The news isn’t the fee itself, but rather it’s - “the authorization which will be digitally linked to passports” - which is digital identity, the cornerstone of the new order.

For years Britons travelling to the USA have had to pay a similar ESTA fee.
Quid pro quo.
It seems the only thing governments are good at is dreaming up more ways to tax people.
NB illegals arriving across the English Channel from Africa and the East will be exempt.

It’s a moneygrab and nothing else.
So, when you arrive, they owe you 10 pounds. Either you damage something to that tune, or you steal something of equal value.
Either way levels the playing field.

IMO, if this country were to implement a very costly visa fee for entrant applicants, maybe we wouldn’t have so many visa-overstayers.....

Yes. And next year the EU will introduce a very similar authorization process for non-EU citizens, US included. I suspect nothing of this would have happened without the US coming up with ESTA first.

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Me and my family were there in May. We’ve always wanted to visit London, and although the people we talked to were great, I couldn’t believe the amount of pride crap everywhere. Even LGBT pedestrian traffic lights. Crazy!

In Dec I’m transiting thru the UK on my way to Thailand, hopefully I won’t have to leave the airport to enter the country.

However, I’m spending the night in Finland, may need to check visa requirements for the EU.

The U.S. has been doing the same for years with ESTA. The fee is $21.00.

All eligible nationals or citizens of VWP countries who plan to travel to the United States for temporary business or pleasure under VWP are required to receive an authorization through ESTA prior to boarding a U.S.-bound airplane or vessel or presenting themselves for admission at a United States land border port of entry. The term “United States” refers to the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands of the United States, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

It’s “Declare the pennies on your eyes.”

Pennies were placed on the eyes of the dead so they’d have some money in the afterlife. The Beatles were commenting on the insane Brit taxation policies of the day, with 95% tax on incremental income (”one for you nineteen for me”). Declare them as income so they could be taxed.

Or you can just come over in a rubber boat from France. That way you don’t need any papers, you pay no fees and the UK government even pays your hotel and food bills for you. Just be sure to answer “durka durka jihad” to any questions the authorities ask and you’re in!

“Can any Freepers risk visiting the UK?”

I was in the UK a few weeks ago. Don’t get paranoid yet. They may be on their way to Checka status, but not as of today.

The worst time I have had was at a UK airport after joking with a Russian group waiting to board our plane back to the US.

Note to self: interacting with various nationalities can cause you get extra special attention from nice representatives of governments.
