Michigan Officials From Whitmer to Slotkin Silent In Wake of Assault on Jewish Student

Days after a group of young men attacked a University of Michigan student after overhearing him say he was Jewish, most of the state's top elected officials have yet to utter a word on the brazen anti-Semitic act.

Just two of Michigan's congressional representatives—Reps. Haley Stevens (D.) and Tim Walberg (R.)—had addressed the Sunday incident, which occurred just a block from the university's Jewish Resource Center, by Tuesday morning. Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer (D.), Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D.), and Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D.), Elissa Slotkin (D.), Hillary Scholten (D.), Bill Huizenga (R.), and Debbie Dingell (D.) have not addressed it and did not respond to requests for comment. Slotkin is running to replace Stabenow in the Senate, while Dingell represents Ann Arbor, where the attack took place and is being investigated as a hate crime...

Walberg, the Republican who sits on the House Education and Workforce Committee, commented on the attack Monday morning.

"Antisemitism, especially violent antisemitism, cannot be tolerated," he wrote before calling on the perpetrators to be punished.

Another committee member, Stevens, released a statement on the assault Monday afternoon. "It is a sad day when someone is attacked due to their religious identity and it has been horrifying to learn that a Jewish American was accosted in Ann Arbor," she said.

Fellow Michigan Reps. John James (R.), Lisa McClain (R.), Jack Bergman (R.), John Moolenaar (R.), Dan Kildee (D.), and Shri Thanedar (D.) responded to the Free Beacon's requests for comment on Tuesday. They condemned anti-Semitism and called for a swift and effective punishment of the alleged assailants.

They have been silent for the past 50 years every time a white person in Michigan has been attacked by brown or black people for being in the wrong neighborhood after dark.

Why would they start speaking now?

A better question is...What makes Jewish people so much more special than white people that anyone would think leaders NOW have to start talking about people getting attacked by brown and black people?

You people are so brainwashed into hating your own kind that you don’t even see it.

Um, not all Jews are Democrats, as you seem to assume. For instance, in my family, the Jewish side are all conservative, and have been since they immigrated here from Poland (in the 1880s) and from Holland (in the 1660s). Unfortunately, on the gentile side, half are brainless Dems, whom I pray for cheerfully, as my Catholic faith requires. But we're all pretty darned white--especially the Poles!

On the other hand, none on either side is anti-Semitic. How about you?

That’s not what I said.

My issue is that while people have been attacked by brown and black people for years and the response is ….”Oh, that sucks for them. But that’s just life in the big city. Nothing can be done.”

But when a Jewish person is attacked we are supposed to say….”This is the worst thing in the world and basically another holocaust.”

No one is more zealous than I am for dropping the hammer on city predators--the racially motivated ones especially. I think it's part of that same sensibility to be outraged at criminal attacks on Jews in particular. As a people, they generally keep their kids from becoming thugs or criminals (except for Jewish mobsters), and through their their risk-taking in retail businesses and investments have helped American cities turn around when others were staying away.

In cities, cops are the thin blue line that lets them survive. The argument can be made that in a great many cities, Jews have been the thin green line that let them grow out of bankruptcy.

And there is a "rhyme" with Weimar Germany that could be made from that. Jewish commercial culture helped Germany haul itself off the ash heap of World War I. The Nazis encouraged Germans to hate and envy them for it, and attacked both poor Jews and rich.

On "woke" college campuses, nobody hates Jewish businessmen and Israel like the children of Jewish Commies--who truly are Nazis at heart.
