The Other PA race... McCormick vs Casey

The other PA race… McCormick vs Casey

While PA, and its other rust belt brethren have been the focus of countless discussions this election cycle, those discussions have centered almost exclusively around the Presidential election. PA is a crucial state, its 19 electoral votes are the biggest prize in that part of the country, and if PA goes for Trump, there is no path at all for Harris to reach 270, though honestly there isn’t much of a realistic path to 270 for any democrat this cycle, and never was, only the slimmest possible path requires a clean sweep of the Rust Belt offers Harris any hope… though mathematically some would argue that should she lose only WI or MI, they could still have a shot… I however do not subscribe in any way to that belief.

Today, however, I would like to discuss the state of the Senate race in PA. The overshadowing of this race by the Presidential one isn’t simply because presidential races always garner more attention, provided they can be sold as “competitive, but also because traditional political thinking has this race as a solid D hold, and generally nothing has given much reason to believe otherwise.

Of all senators in the USA, Casey may be even more mentally retarded than the other Pennsylvania senator, Fetterman (who has a brain impairment).

Casey has been invisible his entire senate career. He is a rubber stamp for the most progressive policies of the democrat party. His staff does all the thinking for him and he does what they tell him. The guy is a mannequin, a wind-up toy, on par with puppet Biden.

But Pennsylvanians (especially the big union members and pygmy cannibals in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) will still vote for the brainless zombie.

Until the USA collapses, the living dead Casey will die in office.

It was those 3 nationally televised debates between Casey and Santorum in ‘06. The democrats were on a roll and Santorum was going to lose. In those 3 debates Santorum wiped the floor with Casey who looked clueless. Didn’t matter.

Santorum was tossed, and deservedly so. No debate was going to save him... he lost by 17 points.. he’s played his little games long enough that no one wanted him around any longer.

I know, people on here still seem to love Santorum, mostly because they never had to deal with him... and he milked that for a long long time, but in PA, he was DOA n 2006 largely due to his long history of playing games and being two faced... it finally came back on him.

I am never going to be someone who defends Santorum. His last election especially showed his hypocrisy all over the place... rant against public spending in public, make back door deals to spend money like water trying to get Union voters. etc etc.etc.. say one thing on his english web site, and something completely opposite on his spanish web site... etc...

He got his just desserts for his behavior by the time he was tossed, and tossed by a humiliating margin.... Santorum got beat by his actions over time, no debate performance was going to save him.

Casey is an empty suit, like this article states, Dems could have run anyone and they were going to take out Santorum by a large margin, didn’t matter who they ran.

Sadly had to watch Santorum con folks for years with perpetual presidential campaigns and some folks here every cycle fall for his act... much like the fools falling for con man Vivek’s act this cycle.

Casey is without any question the most boring man to watch campaign I have ever seen, no presence what so ever... and yes he’s largely just a straight D vote for whatever goes on... but he’s also not as dumb as some want to believe.... He manages to stay out of the fray of most of the crazy left wing stuff and GOP perpetually refuses to take the field whenever he’s up for election.

McCormick is less than ideal in my eyes, he is guilty of being a globalist, he’s a card carrying member of the WEF, he has indeed personally profited from exporting jobs to China. He’s basically what a typical GOP candidate would look like before Trump... and Toomey et al have shown repeatedly what that looks like when push comes to shove.

I think he’s running a reasonable campaign all in all, but I don’t believe McCormick can win PA on his own... He’s far superior to OZ, don’t know what those idiots were thinking with that one.... but he’s still got issues... So far he hasn’t been able to get any sort of kill shot on Casey, and unless you can convince registered Democrats to cross over to you, at least some of them, winning state wide in PA is a very very tough thing to do in PA, and Casey hasn’t conceded the border, and in fact if you just watch Casey’s ad’s you would believe he’s the biggest anti open border person on the planet... I haven’t seen anything from McCormick that so far can bust through that facade...

I think for him to win, Trump has to take the state by 4-5 points and drag him along with him... we’ll see what happens on election day.

I agree with you. He called Pakistan an ‘ally’ while Trump calls them out. Santorum was getting like Toomey but he was no Arlen Specter. He supported Specter over 2004 that had to do with support for the next SCOTUS appointment. I gave Toomey $10 as a statement. The seat’s gone for 18 years, perhaps 24. Nice work if you can get it.

Like Tester Casey is lucky with timing. 2012 was a presidential year and ‘18 was mid-term when whoever is in the WH loses seats in congress. Is our guy good enough?

Casey Jr. is dumber than a chimp (or even Kamala Harris). But unfortunately so are a slim majority of PA voters, as has been consistently demonstrated in recent years with the exception of the 2016 presidential election, when Democrat overconfidence led to a (relative) lack of fraud on their part, and Trump was able to win the Keystone State by a fraction of a percent.

Part of that slim majority of ignorant PA voters consists of Gullible Geezers who tend to believe whatever lies (”Republicans are going to ELIMINATE your Social Security and Medicare! For real this time!”) the liberal media continually spouts on behalf of their party.

PA is a fairly elderly state, with a percentage of over-65s (18.8%) that is nearly as high as Florida’s (20.3%). When they see the name “Casey” on a ballot, some portion of Pennsylvania geezer-dom undoubtedly believes that it is Bob Casey SENIOR they are voting for. Senior was a much-beloved Governor in the 1980s and 90s who became famous nationally when he was prohibited from speaking at the 1992 Democrat National Convention due to his outspoken anti-abortionist position. Senior was totally in line with liberal Democrat orthodoxy on every other issue, however.

Dave McCormick spent lavishly of his own money in the 2022 Republican primary vs. “Electable” Dr. Oz, but lost by less than 1,000 votes out of 1.34 million which were cast. McCormick graciously conceded and now has returned for another shot at the Senate — this time with the GOP field cleared for him; no more dealing with pesky moderate dilettantes like Oz or staunch conservatives like Kathy Barnette. McCormick is again funding a large part ($4 million as of late June) of his own campaign and, aside from a recent left-biased outlier poll from CBS, appears to be inching closer to a possible — but still unlikely — upset.

Casey is now in his 18th Senate year, and has voted the liberal position 94% of the time during his tenure. He has been a reliable supporter of the Biden-Harris agenda and marches out of lockup on only the rarest and most unimportant of occasions. McCormick is a wealthy moderate businessman — the kind of candidate the GOP establishment absolutely adores. Wealthy businessguys often lack icky conservatism and they have the ability to waste spend lots of money on their own behalf. It could be argued that a true conservative would have little chance of being elected statewide in Pennsylvania, and a nominal conservative like Pat Toomey or Rick Santorum is the best we can do.

Should McCormick somehow pull off the upset, his voting record in the Senate would likely be a little to the left of Toomey-Santorum though nowhere near (hopefully) as lunatic leftist as ex-Republican Senator Arlen “Judas” Specter, who went out in a blaze of bitterness back in 2010. Anything even close to Toomey-Santorum territory would be a tremendous improvement over the Casey pup in the empty suit.

PA may be 51% Democrat at the ballot box, but it deserves better than a pair of 100% liberal Senators; one is quite enough.

Casey Jr only got elected because of his daddy’s name. Bob Casey Sr was a sincere democrat. Casey, the junior, always was an idiot.

"Casey Jr only got elected because of his daddy’s name."

The amazing thing is that he still DOES.

No longer can Casey be falsely portrayed as a "moderate" (his father was no "moderate" either aside from 1 single issue) and no longer do spiteful idiots vote against the Republican because "Rick Santorum backed Arlen Specter instead of Pat Toomey".

But they still vote for Casey. Between those voters who know exactly who and what Casey is, and those Gullible Geezers who still think that this pup is actually his father, he still gets his 10-point wins (or more) every 6 years.

This is a tougher year for Casey than usual -- but not tough enough.

Apparently, Trump is likely to do better than McCormick in PA by approximately 3-4 points. If Trump is somehow able to pull a victory out of his ass in PA (which is essential), there's no way in hell it will be by more than 2 points barring some massive swing in voter sentiment in the next 7 weeks.

So if that math is correct (and probably even if it's not), Casey's extremely likely to win again. Even so, Casey still ranks 5th among Senate Democrats whose seats might flip to the GOP, and that's not too bad:
