Hunger reached its highest point in the United States in nearly a decade last year, with 18 million households, or 13.5%, struggling at some point to secure enough food, a Department of Agriculture report released on Wednesday said. Hunger has been on the rise in the country since 2021, after years of decline. U.S. Census Bureau data last year showed a rise in food insecurity after the end of programs that expanded food aid during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stories like this are propaganda to increase funding for the food stamp industry. Its true that there is some hunger in the US. But obesity is the main problem with poor people.
THEN WHY IS EVERYONE SO DAMNED FAT?........................
How do they define hungry?
I get hungry about an hour before lunchtime. Does that count?
“Starve ‘Em Back Better”
Where are the hungry people? Everybody is obese.
Does a fat person who missed a meal count in “the hungry”?
If it's propaganda, it would be disseminated far and wide. But this is the first I've heard of it.
I think there is some truth to more hungry people. They're just not the ones we think of when we see welfare sows.
2021, just when the current administration came in and created unbelievable inflation.
It is because of what people eat and how much of it.
For poorer people of all stripes, ebt food cards pay for a lot of fattening junk food. Take a look at some of those overflowing carts of junk food in some of the grocery stores.
I imagine the fast food has slowed some because it is so expensive now.
LOL, and getting fatter
IIRC hunger is defined as missed one meal in last month. We need more of it, an end to ‘Hunger’ PSAs and to limit EBT cards for the obese to Moochelle’s school lunch menu.
You can use welfare money to buy sugar sandwich cookies and candy bars.
I saw it all in my first teenage job in a grocery store. 300 pound welfare queens riding up in their late-model Cadillacs, buying all manner of junk food, and then pulling out the “food coupon” book. It was disgusting.
If I were king, food stamps would only be spendable on healthy staples. Dry beans or rice, certain fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs and some cheese. No meat. You can buy that with your own money, otherwise the abuse is too easy.
I've been told that I should skip a meal every once in a while. I guess I'm in poverty too. LOL.
And "food desert" is defined as no major fresh food retailer within a mile radius.
That classifies 98% of the U.S. as a "food desert."
Diet Mountain Dew at the top..................
Churches participate in the BackPack Buddies program. Teachers identify kids in pre-school and elementary school that don’t have food over the weekends. The kids get to take enough food, pre-packaged and canned items, to get them through the weekend. Older kids won’t participate, afraid of what their friends will think, so it’s the younger kids that are part of the program.
Our church provides 7 meals per kid for a weekend. We did about 40,000 meals last year and have just started the new school year. No Gov’t assistance, in our church the money doesn’t even come out of the budget, it’s just individuals who pay for the items through a community center, collect and deliver the meals to the schools
Wonderful.
And no waste. Churches should replace government welfare programs in 90% of the cases.
“Stories like this are propaganda to increase funding for the food stamp industry. “
Exactly! Check out wallmart shoppers and see how much they’re starving.
This year, I have eaten 2 days a week. Yeah, I get hungry sometimes.
