Trump: "Medical Marijuana has been amazing"

Trump smiles at question about Congress doing shrooms, teases forthcoming drug policy on podcast

He didn’t want to trip up.

Former President Donald Trump chuckled slightly at the notion of Congress doing shrooms to improve its performance when asked about his thoughts on psychedelics.

Podcaster Lex Fridman suggested during an interview with Trump that “we would probably have a better world if everybody in Congress took some mushrooms” when pressing for his thoughts on the matter.

“So we put out a statement the other day,” Trump replied, referencing his recent Truth Social post that spoke favorably of a marijuana ballot measure in Florida.

“We’re gonna put another one probably next week to be more specific,” Trump continued. “But it’s coming up, and we’ll see how it does. I will say it’s been very hard to beat it. You take a look at the numbers, it’s been very hard to beat it…But you want to do it in a safe way.”

Trump, 78, steered clear of commenting directly on psychedelics specifically during his exchange with Fridman, who has gone on an ayahuasca retreat and conversed with guests about their spiritual experiences on drugs.

The 45th president had sought to stake out some middle ground on the question of marijuana last week on Truth Social, arguing that it is not necessary to “ruin lives” by arresting adults with weed on them.

......

“Medical marijuana has been amazing. I’ve had friends and I’ve had others and doctors telling me that it’s been absolutely amazing — medical marijuana,” he told Fridman.

“We can live with marijuana … it’s gotta be done in a really concerted way.”

Trump touted Florida’s approach, seemingly alluding to the Amendment 3 ballot measure, as “very good” and stressed that there need to be restrictions, such as age.

The suggestion that congress legislate while on mushrooms actually has
some me historical precedent. Herodotus wrote of a Greek city which passed laws by means of a popular assembly. They would first conduct a vote while sober. Next, they would all get drunk and hold a second vote. Only if the law passed both sessions would it be enacted.

What’s a few more national average IQ points. We are already circling the drain as a society, so let’s just dumb down the population a bit more. Until we see a rise in head and neck cancer, at which point we’ll have another national conversation on its usage.

You know something that is interesting? This is not a criticism, but simply an observation.

One will state an opinion, then caveat it with what is “politically correct”.

I have noticed this with the vaccine big time, lesser so with Ukraine, and definitely with this mary jane issue.

Dunno what it means, or if it’s important. Just an observation.

< > Government sanctioned pot per gram... $10+ taxes. Illegal pot per gram... $3 to $5 and no taxes. Legalized pot hasn’t realized any tax revenue to speak of, and it’s legalization has made other non-legalized drugs more acceptable. Legalization is not the answer. Based upon your post, the free market and not the government is the only correct answer.

Yea, wake and bake is MAGA!!!! So is schizoid behavior, psychosis, addiction and drain bamage. It’s called dope for a reason. A stupid way to gain voters, Donnie boy. Go all in for abortion while you’re at it. We know you think gambling is a good vice - although it didn’t turn out well personally in Atlantic City. Votes come first!!!!

Both Biden and Trump have substance abusers in their families. Why promote it? Votes? Are you also going to promise free care and rehab to addicts? You should if you are going to promote drug use.

I have a very painful back problem.
Bad sciatica is just part of the problem.
I use a thc/cbd cream on my lower back.
Works fantastic for the pain and partial relief of the sciatica.
I see a pain doctor for my back and they give me injection into the spinal column to help relieve the pain.
So far the cream works better than the shots.
Next week they are going to try a new type of shot.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

MIL has severe pain in her leg due to terrible operations that have failed. Bad doctors that no longer practice in the area.
She uses gummies and edible to help with her pain.
Regardless of how you feel about it, it has it’s uses.

The cost of producing pot is dirt cheap... For instance... It cost about $0.49 to produce a pound of tobacco... Yup... 49 cents per pound. The cost of producing a pound of pot can’t be a whole lot more than 49 cents, so the profit margin is enormous. The government selling it for $10 per gram is insanity.

There’s the issue, right there.

There is no enforcement on the tax-scofflaws. And that is what the enforcement is actually for - to make sure the tax money/get is delivered up.

The nonsense about controlling something to keep people from destroying themselves is a farce. There’s no way to keep self-destructive people from doing what they do, barring locking them up or sending to some work farm on a remote island.

Even then, considering your example of the bottle on the dashboard - the response is realistic, you can drink yourself to death, but don’t take a bunch of innocents with you.

Nothing new to any of this - recently read of the common use of opium and ‘morphia’ in 1870s major midwestern city - same diff as with oxy and fentanyl today.

Legalized pot hasn’t realized any tax revenue...proves you don’t pay attention. Just proves that “Conservatives” LOVE big government, as long as it’s THEIR big government.

I agree with you. Although, of the other issues you mentioned, the only one I would caveat is the one I caveated.

Do you think that there are medical benefits to marijuana? Not trying to pick a fight...just curious. I have to admit, my knowledge of it is very limited...only have inhaled it a couple of times as a teenager and have no intent of doing it again (I’m 58).

The result I see around here is a bunch of doped up dopes. We have just about put everything else in the category of too hard to enforce. What next?

People are better off sober. Period. Keep your wits about you. The elite running things are not folked up all the time. Neither should any of us be.

Every election cycle has Marijuana consumption and abortion on the same bàllot.

That makes for a greater voter-turnout.

Which, in turn, keeps us from achieving a second “Greatest Generation”.

The problem is first responders and the military.

While States can legalize it, I do not think it will be legalized on a Federal Level. In the Eighties, the military brought back random testing after some high-profile accidents where THC was present in the systems of the deceased. The THC levels were either the factor or a contributing factor to the accidents. You cannot legalize marijuana at the federal level and make it illegal to use by military personnel. It won't be allowed on base or sold on base. I seriously doubt a military pharmacy would prescribe it. They have not worked this issue out as of yet.

It has impacted recruiting as many young people do not want to give up their marijuana for four years. There are ways it can be handled. Keep it illegal on base, and mandatory testing after any accident. That is hardly satisfactory if someone is killed. They cannot do random testing anymore. If you are on base and are arrested for being under the influence, they can run a urinalysis test. First failure mandatory counseling, second failure NJP, third failure not eligible to reenlist. Some branches used to do that with physical fitness failures. It is going to be a tough thing to work out. But I seriously doubt there will be a legalization federally anytime soon.

Let’s not call it “pot” or “weed”.

It is, after all, a drug with consequences...

Peer reviewed studies and Trump agree, the God-given plant known as Marijuana is not evil

Ditto Ivermectin that has been shown to be effective vs many types of cancer.

“Marijuana consumption makes great voters...NOT...”

There are 10s of millions of conservative voters that smoke weed. It’s a big country.

I’m not sure if there are medical benefits, I suspect benefits would be eclipsed by breathing unfiltered smoke in, but that’s for the smoker to decide. I know there are plenty of ways to take it without smoking.

I really have a libertarian take on the whole issue.

If there were a way to make the user responsible for all costs and consequences, I’d say let folks do their thing.

Trouble is, they’ll be wanting me to pay for rehab, medical expenses, higher car insurance, and all the ills that come along with it. The other side would say, yeah, but you already pay for that with alchohol, smoking etc. I say yeah, why add another. So pretty weak arguments both ways.

But what REALLY sends up the red flag for me is how badly the communists running this joint want people smoking it. That fact is not trivial in any way. These are people that by all accounts are savages from hell. And that’s what they want our society to do. So I say, “no, let’s not do what these folks want us to do. Our enemy does not have our best interests at heart.”

Maybe we do it some other way.... but not their way.

For chronic pain, cancer, etc., it is just like morphine, etc. It helps a lot. It should be prescribed.

For recreational (sic) use it is bad, makes people worthless and lazy, youth especially, who ought to be developing self-discipline, a work ethic, good judgment, etc. All the things you need to contribute to society meaningfully in adulthood.

Instead dope use contributes heavily to organized crime, including murder, child trafficking, and wholesale bribery of our electeds. It is probably the main reason our border is open.

It is the reason Mexico is no longer a nation but a cooperative of cartels co-administered by bribed elected and drug lords.

It is one of the ways hostiles have effectively ruined our national defense and contributed to what appears to be a completely lost generation, a cohort of illiterates incapable of adding or subtracting, or thinking their way out of a paper bag.

In Baltimore recently zero percent of the elementary school 'graduates' could read or add. City-wide.

Libertine stoners will never grasp all this, probably because of the effects of the drug on their own brains.
