That map of the North Pole shipping routes is very interesting. Had a dream once where I was on a cruise around the North Pole, woke up and said, how is that possible? So I checked and saw that there are cruises around the South pole for a cool 45k. How about that?

For sure, I hope so to. Very difficult to watch.

I kept hearing that Die Hard was a Christmas movie, so I watched the last half.

Well ya, starts out at a Christmas party in a skyscraper with very well played bad guys taking them hostage. Lovely Christmas combat dialogue. Superhero renegade cop foils their plans, almost gets kilt but kills the bad guys as the tower gets destroyed as the city cops and FBI get shamed. He survives and gets to kiss the fair maiden, his wife as Dean Martin sings a Christmas song. Yup, it's a Christmas movie.

A Christmas Story for Veterans.

The Present Hobo Joe had a rough life. He never knew his parents, never knew a day of peace. He fought in one of those wars, and has been fighting that war ever since.

When he was a kid, he took odd jobs. But when he got home from that war, you know, the one that no one liked, he couldn’t bring himself to handle the pressure of answering to a boss, or dealing with other people, for that matter.

Hobo Joe just wanted to be by himself. To be left alone.

Hobo Joe never smoked, never drank liquor, never took drugs, never stole, never harmed a soul in his life … except for those yellow people that everyone over there called gooks. He killed a bunch of them, so they couldn’t kill him. He thought he was doing the right thing at the time. Might have been. But when he got home, everyone he saw hated him for what he did in that war.

Folks told him to go to the VA and try to get some disability. But Hobo Joe wouldn’t have any of that. He was too proud. Or perhaps too afraid, too confused, to navigate the labyrinth of governmental requirements.

So he ate at the soup kitchens, out of dumpsters, or by accepting the generosity of passersby. He slept at shelters, under bridges, on the concrete floors of public restrooms. But he never slept easy, every night filled with nightmares, images of the dead and dying, memories of what he had done and what had been done to him. On an especially cold and snowy winter’s night, Joe was walking down a backstreet in town, snow crunching under his boots. He had that coat they gave him at the mission and those boots that were just a little too small. The shelters were full, and Hobo Joe needed a place to sleep that night. Up ahead, parked in a dark alley, was an old car. From where he stood, it appeared to be abandoned.

But as he got closer and opened the door, he could see two figures in the back there in the dark: a young woman and her three-year-old child. The young woman screamed.

“Get away! Leave us alone!”

They were bundled up in some old blankets. The child was coughing.

“I’m sorry, ma’am. I’m looking for a place to sleep. It’s cold out here.”

“This ain’t your car?”

“No, ma’am. I thought it was yours.”

“Ain’t mine. I saw it here and climbed in. My baby is sick. The doctor at the clinic gave us some medication and a prescription for more. I got money, but I don’t know where to get the medicine.”

“There’s a drugstore about a mile from here.”

“I can’t take her out there in the snow again. She ain’t doing too good right now. Could you watch her while I go get the

meds?” “Naw. I can’t do that. Anyhow, it’s too cold. The streets are slippery. You probably wouldn’t make it.” Joe scratched his head, adjusted his old woolen cap. “I ain’t got no money. Give me what you got, and I’ll go get your medicine.”

“How do I know you won’t just take my money and go buy some liquor?”

“I’d never do that. Don’t drink, no how. Hate that stuff.”

“I don’t know how much it is. I got $22. Here, take that.” “OK. I’ll bring the change. Now, look here. If I do this for you, I want you to let me sleep in that front seat there.”

“It’s a deal. Just stay away from me and my daughter.” She handed him the prescription and all the money she had.

Hobo Joe took the prescription and money, then headed toward the drugstore, hoping it was still open.

The hike took over an hour. The snow was coming down heavily now, weighing down the Christmas decorations hanging from every pole. Snow was turning into sleet. Hobo Joe’s feet hurt from the too-small boots. The wind whistled right through his heavy coat. His fingers stung through his thin gloves. Joe balled up his fists and stuck them as deep into the coat pockets as he could, one fist wrapped tightly around that $22.

The drugstore was still open. The pharmacy was about to close.

“We can fill that prescription Thursday morning.”

“I don’t think she can wait that long. Her baby is pretty sick, coughing all the time. She needs it now.”

The pharmacist frowned but took the prescription. A few minutes later, he came back to the counter.

“That will be $37.54.”

“Hell. I only got 22 bucks.” Joe was upset.

“Then I can’t help you. Come back when you have the rest of the money. I’ll keep it right here near the counter for you. Store closes at 9:00 p.m.”

“I can’t get any more money.” Hobo Joe was screaming now. “Give me that medicine, or I’ll climb over the counter and get it from you.”

“What’s going on here?” A policeman with a sullen face had just walked in the door.

“This bum has a prescription for a child’s cold medicine. He doesn’t have the money for it. He threatened to take it from me.”

For the next several minutes, Hobo Joe explained to the officer what had happened, how he had come upon the abandoned car with the woman and child sleeping in it, how the child was sick and needed medication.

Officer Salvatore turned to the pharmacist, “What’s the cost of the medication?”

“$37.54.”

He pulled two twenty dollar bills from his wallet and handed them to the pharmacist. “Keep the damn change.”

“I’ve got $22 she gave me.” Joe reached into his pocket.

“Keep the money. Give it to the lady when we get back to her car.”

“What do you mean?”

“That weather is too bad to be walking out there. I’ll take you back to her.”

A few minutes later, they arrived at the abandoned car. Officer Salvatore spoke with the woman for a few minutes and then turned to Hobo Joe.

“I think she’s as sick as her baby is. Looks like someone beat her up. We need to take them both to the hospital.”

The woman said, “I don’t have any money for hospital bills.”

“Don’t worry about that. Let me help you into my patrol car. You both need to see a doctor.”

They soon arrived at the hospital. Hobo Joe held the child while Officer Salvatore helped the woman out of the car. But only after a few steps, she fainted. He picked her up and carried her into the emergency room.

An hour later, Salvatore and Hobo Joe were sitting in a waiting room for a doctor to tell them what was going on.

A young doctor came out and spoke with them. “Is Emily wife or daughter to one of you?”

“We don’t know her. We just met her tonight. She needed help.”

“Both mother and child are probably going to be OK. We’d like to keep them a couple of days for observation. The medication we’ve given is probably all they need. But we’d like to be sure. She has some fresh bruising. She told me her husband beat her. But she got upset when I suggested she bring charges against him. She won’t do it.”

“I see a lot of that. Afraid to do anything about the abuse. Let me give you my phone number in case you need anything else from me. I want to make sure she gets all the help she needs.”

“My head nurse can get her into a Battered Women’s program. You don’t have to worry about that. We’ll make sure she and her child get everything they need.”

“After she feels better, I’ll see if she will press charges. Probably not, but I gotta try. That bastard should be in jail.”

The doctor nodded in agreement and went back down the hall. Officer Salvatore turned toward Hobo Joe. The policeman was obviously fighting back tears.

“Joe, I’ve got to thank you for what you’ve done tonight.”

“Well, she needed help.”

“I don’t just mean that. You know what I was doing at the pharmacy?”

“No.”

“It’s Christmas Eve, the first one without my wife. We never had kids, so I’m by myself now. I had to get out of that house. I didn’t even put up a tree this year.” He took a deep breath. “Last week, they told me I was going to have to retire at the end of next month. That hit me hard. The thought of not having anything useful to do threw me into a depression. I convinced my doctor I needed some sleeping pills for sleep. But that wasn’t what I was going to do with them. You saved my life, Joe. You showed me I could still be useful. Whatever you need, whatever you want, just let me know, and if I can, I will get it for you.”

“I guess I just need a ride back to that car. I’ll be sleeping there tonight.”

They stood there for a long moment, looking at each other. Then Officer Salvatore smiled, “I’ve got an extra bedroom, and I’m looking for a roommate. Come and live with me.”

“I don’t know about that. I kinda like being on my own.”

“Then just stay the night. It will be freezing inside that old car. The guest bedroom is quiet and private. I won’t bother you. We could even put up the tree if you want to.”

“I ain’t had a Christmas tree since I was a kid. Are you sure you want me in your home? You don’t know me.”

“I know this: you are a man with nothing, who was willing to help a person you just met. That’s all I need to know. Let me do this for you. Tomorrow is Christmas Day. And now, thanks to you, I will live to see it. Tonight you gave me the best present I’ve ever received.”

That cracked me up when I saw it on X/Erics post this AM

The letter to Greenland via POSO was excellent also. Things I never considered

Was awake last night but couldn’t connect to chat. Most were/are probably busy with Christmas whatever

Jeff has a lower and upper GI scope and Paracentesis scheduled for Friday. No ride lined up. His daughter? Long story. He’s seen her 3times in past 5 months and she lives 20 miles away.

He wouldn’t come to Fla with me where I had a wonderful job lined up…because he didn’t want to leave his kids. Then one died and the other is BUSY

I did get good news Re: Jeff in talking to Digestive specialist this AM re:bloodwork in prep for Fridays 2 procedures. I was checking on potassium levels which have been low. It was in normal range. I already had potassium super booster in hand if low

But that wasn’t the good news

Addressed to our two medical people MsB and Norsky as they will understand more fully than even me

He was near death for weeks in July+ in intensive care step down . Liver, kidney and organs failure. He was given 5 months at best

I never prayed for his healing just for help and strength for us to both get through this and grow through whatever happens

This most recent bloodwork His MELD score was 9!!. Indication of liver function n/or failure. The lower the better

So I’m quite happy

Need to get busy in kitchen just regular meals which will be heavy with eggs😊

Will check in later if the internet gods permit

Well, prayer definitely helps. I have seen some miraculous things. An even bigger miracle would be a change of heart and deliverance for alcohol, so there would be peace now and forever.

I think our police dept is the best. They are very community involved.

"The Night Before Christmas in Pasco (Some crime highlights in Christmas Poem form)

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the city, The calls kept on coming, some serious, some witty. From mental health struggles to saving with care, Narcan revived lives—it’s why we are there.

A car sped past an officer, fast as could be, The driver was swerving, not sober, you see. A cranberry cocktail had done its foul deed, And the driver was stopped for their dangerous speed.

Two prowlers were spotted at an RV site, Caught sneaking through shadows in the dead of the night. They stepped out with hands raised, no further disgrace, For they knew to comply was the safest embrace.

A thief in a coat so reflective and bright, Made it easy to catch him that cold winter night. With wallets aplenty and cards in his grip, We’d love to return them—so give us a tip!

On Chapel Hill Boulevard, a curious scene, Two vials of THC caused chaos obscene. One man dented a car and screamed at the skies, But officers calmed him with steady replies.

A slow-moving car, its front end amiss, Was stopped by our team—something was amiss. The driver was swaying, his words quite a blur, A reminder that drinking and driving won’t deter.

A gun was reported, waved high in the air, But alas, ‘twas a tool, though it gave quite a scare. The man wisely complied and set the tool down, Turning what could have been grave to a safe little town.

From thefts to collisions, from prowls to disputes, The week was eventful, with many pursuits.

But through it all, a message rings clear, Stay safe, stay kind, and spread Christmas cheer. So remember this season, as we patrol day and night, Compliance and kindness will keep things all right.

Merry Christmas to all in Pasco’s embrace, And thank you for helping keep our town a safe place!"

Read earlier about the cancelled/ postponed American airline flights

Think it may have something to do with the drones and possible lost nuclear material alphabet agencies still tract “chatter to get heads up on these things”

The maps I saw showed many restricted in NJ area

I don’t know what to make of these drones. On one hand, I feel like they’re trying to scare the daylights out of everyone up until Jan. 20, on the other hand, that they may be trying to find missing nuclear material also makes sense. I have read of material going missing, and the country is full of terrorists now. It’s a scary situation. I am somewhat nervous about Christmas Day. It would be the time for evil to strike.
