Is Donald Trump Trying To Lose? Trump Blunders On Florida Abortion Amendment
Evangelical Dark Web ^ | August 30, 2024 | Ray Fava

Posted on 08/30/2024 1:23:18 PM PDT by Morgana

It’s a rather open phenomenon that Donald Trump is running a nominally pro-life campaign at best and an actively pro-abortion campaign at worst, causing many Christians in the abortion abolitionist camp to withhold their support of the Republican president who once had the best record on the life issue. However, a recent question by Donald Trump gives the impression that Trump supports the pro-abortion amendment in Florida.

Trump wiggles, but the most coherent strain in his answer is an opposition to Florida’s current 6-week abortion bill, which Governor Ron DeSantis signed. Trump insists that more time is needed than that, and that was how he intended to vote.

Unsurprisingly, this answer did not sit well with many Christian leaders, as there is no strategic value in broadcasting support for abortion in Florida when many on the right, perhaps more than in 2016, are weary of supporting Trump. Abortion is unlikely to play a major role in a second Trump term, but the campaign cannot relent from addressing and capitulating on the issue.

Trump says he will vote yes an amendment that guarantees abortion til birth. My gosh. Aside from being morally wrong, it’s politically miscalculated I am fighting hard to get Christian women engaged in and enthusiastic about this election. Abortion is their biggest – though not only – issue. Doing everything I can to warn them against a Kamala presidency. Statements like this make that much, much more difficult

Allie Stuckie

That “thump, thump” you just heard is the entire pro-life movement going under the bus. At this point, we can hardly overstate the scale of his betrayal of the pro-life cause, and he has taken the GOP with him. Things will never be the same after this.

Denny Burk

The Trump campaign insists that Trump has not yet announced his voting intentions; however, the fact that he hasn’t is tacit support for the amendment. His unwillingness to support efforts to combat it hurt the fight. Governor Ron DeSantis is leading the effort on this issue.

Trump’s insistence on redressing the abortion issue only serves to hurt his campaign for two reasons. First, he’s hemorrhaging his base when he speaks on it. Second, when he’s talking about abortion, he’s not talking about immigration, the economy, avoiding WW3, or any other winning issue. This only causes Evangelicals to withhold their vote for him (rightly or wrongly), but it is a completely avoidable mistake.

Trump says he will vote yes an amendment that guarantees abortion til birth.

What? Is this true? He's repeatedly said he opposes that.

Please do not make this the issue because abortion is abortion. Whether you abort at 6 weeks or 12 weeks, it is still an abortion. As to a national ban, focus on that will work opposite of what people want before this election.

Getting Kaamala elected will cause the RATs to pack SCOTUS and reinstate Roe V Wade nationally as before.

We saw what happened when Linda Graham pulled this prior to an election.

Trump was the most Pro-LIfe President in History

People need to remember that fact. And also remember that politicians massage their message to different voter groups.

I don’t think saying he opposes a 6-week rather than 9 or 12-week abortion period is any more or any less pro-life.

Under his administration, more children would not be aborted by several magnitudes of order than Kamala (Abortion is a religious sacrament) Hairass.

Wars are seldom won in one battle. That’s why they take years. Cutting down the number of abortions is an incremental, step-by-step process.

No pro-life person is happy with this.

I'd say ignore Trump on this. Vote no on the amendment and yes for Trump.

We can fight about this among ourselves later. If we do anything to help Kamala we have shot ourselves. Don't shoot yourself.

This is the opening salvo of the "He is not conservative enough for my vote" single issue voters.

Good luck with the alternative.

If you’re a one issue voter who will sit this one out because a candidate doesn’t agree with you 100% then you probably are not seeing the full picture. A President needs to be President of all the people. And Trump merely said women need more time so he personally will vote against the stringent Proposed law in Florida.

Single issue voters - whether left or right, annoy me.

Stay home due to what he said about abortion? Trump loses.

The GOP continues a winning streak of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Trump is trying to expand beyond the 46% floor of voters he had in the 2016 & 2020 Presidential Elections.

It’s a cold-blooded and ruthless maneuver that pro lifers have every reason to be upset about........but it has to be done to achieve victory.

“Realpolitik.”

All he is doing is removing the only spark the Democrats have to ignite enthusiasm for the upcoming election.

More pro life legislation and verdicts were passed during Trump's 4 years than during all the Republican purists administrations of the last 50 years.

Yes. Trump’s efforts got the abortion issue back to the states where it should be.

Fight it out on a state by state basis and oppose as a matter of principle any federal/national approach.

We just got out from 50 years of that.

A baby is a baby . . .God knew us before we were conceived. Murder is murder. Trump needs to stand for righteousness. No lukewarmers in God’s Kingdom.

I find it very hard to believe that President Trump would approve of abortion up until birth. For crying out loud, he calls the dems out for this very thing, saying that they’re the radicals. I’m not buying this.

People in Florida can vote as they please. President Trump’s view on abortion are now irrelevant in federal politics and his run for the presidency. It’s a state issue. Fight in the states.

Florida Amendment 4, Right to Abortion Initiative (2024)
Ballot year: 2024
Ballot text: Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider. This amendment does not change the Legislature’s constitutional authority to require notification to a parent or guardian before a minor has an abortion.

Not true.
Trump is only against Florida initiative. He is okay extending abortion restrictions by just a few weeks.
He is totally opposed to late term abortions.

40% of suburban women polled have abortion rights as #1 priority. Trump woul be wise to split that huge block of voters if he wants to win.
