A serial killer and sex offender on death row asked to be executed and used his final words to reveal the chilling reason why.
Westley Allan Dodd committed his first sexual offense when he was only 13 years old and continued to live the rest of his life as a depraved sexual predator and killer, going on to kill three boys aged between four and 11.
Police apprehended Dodd after a failed abduction attempt of a 6-year-old boy. When police searched Dodd’s home they found a diary where the killer detailed the sick acts he had committed over his lifetime.
He initially claimed to be innocent but was sentenced to the death penalty after pleading guilty to the murder and sexual assault of three boys in 1989. In an interview ahead of his execution, Dodd said he needed to be executed because if he was ever set free again he would most likely kill again.
Dodd was considered a "volunteer"—a term used for individuals who waive their rights to expedite their own execution. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, there have been around 150 such cases in the United States.
Death penalty cases often take years, or even decades, to resolve because of the extensive appeals process built into the system. These appeals are intended to ensure that the state has not made any errors in sentencing someone to death. They review issues such as juror misconduct, ineffective defense counsel, and the emergence of new evidence. This thorough review process is crucial to preventing mistakes in such serious cases.
“I have to be (executed) because I know I will kill again. I know I would do it again. I’ve been molesting kids nonstop since I was 13 years old - over half my life,” Dodd said. “Anything happened, I guarantee I would do it again and sooner or later I would kill another child. I’ve done it before and, at the time, I liked it.”
Dodd also said that he had a specific person in mind to kill if he ever got the chance, but declined to reveal the identity of the person. “I’m not going to say who,” he went on. “But there is somebody out there - there is a man out there.”
Dodd also added that he hopes his execution will hopefully deter any would-be child molesters in the future. When asked if he looked forward to dying he said: “In a way - it could be a relief, I don't have to think about all these things anymore and I know that's the only way I can guarantee I’m not going to hurt anybody else. Right now I can sit here and say I don’t want to but I know it will happen.”
Dodd refused to appeal his case or sentence, "I must be executed before I have an opportunity to escape or kill someone else," he stated in one court brief. He was executed by hanging, a method he specifically requested, on January 5, 1993.
He used his last words to say claim again that his execution was the only way to stop him. "I was once asked by somebody, I don't remember who, if there was any way sex offenders could be stopped. I said no. I was wrong," he said.
If a person has such a deep down need for evil, but hasn’t committed anything but turns himself in, I’d be willing to spot him a nice place in a psych hospital.

A liberal neighbor was on the board to review the release of serial rapists.
He assured me that they would agree to actual full physical castration as a condition if release, and re-offend the very next day with a broom handle.
“Liberals” will try to block the execution of this confessed child rapist and murderer guilty of the most horrific crimes imaginable and falsely call his execution “murder”. Yet they wholeheartedly support the killing of a completely innocent unborn child and call it “abortion”.
Perhaps if we change the term execution to “retroactive abortion” then the grotesque morality of the “liberals” would support it?
I agree, but the good news is he was executed less than four years after the crime.
These are all worthy punishments:
Feed him feet first into an industrial meat grinder.
Put him in a hyperbaric chamber and give him a near fatal case of the bends.
Draw and quarter him.
Give him the Jacopo de’ Pazzi treatment.
Burn him at the stake.
Soak him in a brine solution.
Feed him to feral hogs.

How did they “terminate him with extreme prejudice”? I would have suggested a Louisville Slugger Model R161, 35” long weighing 34 ounces. Starting at the feet and working up.

Spanish inquisition style, except that the Spaniards gave the doomed a choice of burning at the stake or renouncing their sin or blasphemy at which point they would be garrotted in the above manner and then burned at the stake.
I can only imagine that the local population of curs feasted gloriously on those nights after the ceremonious activities.

I Don't know, nor do I care. This is the first I ever heard of the case and glad it was posted.
Why your angst? Are you wearing your concern apron?
Since you were born in 1943 and enlisted in the Marines in 1961, that would have made you 18 years old at that time.
So how were you able to fly in an F4 when the Marine requirements were a 4 year college degree in order to receive a commission in the Marine Corps and then the subsequent addition training to become a pilot, or in your case, a back street driver.
Inquiring minds want to know.
