Gold Star Families Had Trouble Getting Trump Into Arlington Until House Speaker Intervened
Daily Caller ^ | 8/29/24 | Henry Rogers

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson had to intervene to get former President Donald Trump into Arlington National Cemetery for the third anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal with Gold Star families, a family told the Daily Caller.

The Gold Star families, who lost their children during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, invited Trump to Arlington National Cemetery. He laid a wreath there for the 13 servicemembers who were killed serving their country in Afghanistan. However, a Gold Star family told the Caller that Arlington National Cemetery was trying to make it difficult for the former President to appear for the ceremony to honor their children, something the families requested.

[snip]

Arlington National Cemetery told gold star families that they could only be there for a specific time that did not work for everyone’s schedule and were also told the president could not join them at their children’s gravesites, the family told the Caller.

McCaul immediately reached out to Johnson to ask for his assistance with the matter and the Caller is told he continued to track it until it was fixed.

“Fire everyone that was in on that decision making.”
.

Axios got the story from WP, who got it from NPR.

NPR got the story from an “unidentified source”.

... Its going to take a herculean effort to dislodge layer upon layer of bureaucracy. Trump will be lucky to make a small dent in it;...

Trump has the Constitutional power to fire them all if he wants, on day one.

Except for the military that perform the ceremonies at Arlington, go there and take a note of the predominant race that is in charge. They are Bennie Thompson types. We are at war and one side isn’t aware.

These weren't decisions that were local to Arlington Cemetery management.

Higher-ups were called, and were in the loop. That's how these things work in that Lefty cesspool.

What we see now is just an introduction of what we will see should Camel get the presidency. In other words we haven’t seen half of it yet, it should scare the hell out of most reasonable and clear thinking people. That’s what socialism is all about.

Not that simple. There will be legal challenges galore.

First thing he needs to do is fire all the US attorneys immediately. That’s something incoming GOP administrations rarely do.

X is awash with insults for the families that invited Trump. It is so disgusting at this point I think Musk will have to intervene.

The infiltration & coordination of the left into Government is shocking even now. We need a broom to sweep Government clean. The left knows Trump is that broom.

I have a dream they may get a strong majority in the House and Senate with Trump and a more distant dream they will revisit the unconstitutional laws that prevent firing of deep state workers.

A massive, deep and wide, termination of the entrenched bureaucracy is in order.

I have the ability to be buried at a military cemetery upon my death. Got it all in writing, however, I no longer want that. The government no longer cares about its veterans and I don’t want to buried someplace that is doing its best to uphold that dishonor.

“Yes. Fire everyone that was in on that decision making. Ridiculous. Probably run by Trump hating women.”

I don’t understand your post.

Are you pro firing them all or is it a ridiculous idea?

Lop off the first three levels at all agencies and promote up. Don’t rehire from the bottom. This will get rid of the worst bureaucrat’s and a lot of useless jobs.

Trump can (and should) fire department heads and such. That would be a good start. Put in bosses who will set the right tone. But deeper down in the bureaucracy, folks have civil service protection.

Those folks are protected from purely political firings. That’s a good thing. You shouldn’t be fired just because you didn’t donate to the political party currently in power.

But very unfortunately, that civil service protection also makes it very difficult to fire incompetent people. It’s a paperwork nightmare. Reform is desperately needed here.

“Come January, fire them all!”

2/3 of the DC-employed need to be yanked from the public-teet and tossed on their ass!

I agree. Unfortunately I don’t see Trump getting much support from the Republicans with his house cleaning. They know he has, practically speaking, only three years to remove the entrenched officials and will find ways to slow him down and/or undermine him. Way too many obstructionist RINOs in the party.

Why would ANYONE need “permission” to visit Arlington “National” Cemetery?

PUBLIC property.
