Police are investigating after a Jaws of Life tool was stolen from firefighters in Democrat-run Oakland, California, on Friday.
The apparent theft happened after firefighters used it at the scene of a call in the 1600 block of West Street, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
A law enforcement spokesperson said not long after the firefighters used it they realized it had been taken. Officials did not give any information about suspects in the case.
Now, both agencies are working to recover the tool that is used after serious crashes to rescue individuals trapped inside vehicles.
The Times report noted that “Jaws of Life tools can be operated by a single individual and generally weigh around 50 pounds.”

Are there a lot of cross purpose applications for this tool that make it attractive to steal and sell on the black market or fence? Could it be used by thieves to cut open ATMs for example?
They can easily get it back by offering $20 in crack to the perp.

Apparently firefighters are just now realizing what happens to tools if you leave them lying on the ground in the ghetto.
Buddy of mine told me a story about how he was working in the ghetto, digging under a sidewalk to get at the sewer line, and made the mistake of leaving a jackhammer on the sidewalk. Two “gentleman” came running side by side, like joggers, and just stooped down and grabbed the jackhammer and kept on running without missing a step.

When I was a teen I used to think the jaws of life were what firefighters used to deliver a baby.

We could do a lot to improve society if we started exterminating repeat offenders and criminal trash instead of trying to rehabilitate. Purge them.
