SpaceX will bring stranded Boeing Starliner crew home in February

Boeing Starliner crewmembers Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stranded aboard the International Space Station since June, will remain there until February, NASA administrators announced Saturday.

In weighing whether to allow them to try to return to Earth aboard their malfunctioning Starliner craft or wait until the completion of the upcoming SpaceX Crew-9 Dragon mission in February, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said the agency opted for the latter due to safety reasons.

"Butch and Suni will return with Crew-9 next February," he announced during a televised news conference at Johnson Space Center in Houston, adding that the glitchy Starliner capsule, which currently remains docked to the ISS, will be returned to Earth unmanned.

Neelson said he ultimately expects Boeing to be certified for transporting humans to ISS, which is scheduled to be deorbited in 2031 when it will be 32 years old.

The next Crew 9 mission, scheduled to launch in late September in Florida, will proceed with only two crew members rather than four, making room for Wilmore and Williams to return with it.

The capsules can seat up to seven.

MUSK DOESN’T NEED THAT HEADACHE

He didn't need Twitter either. In fact, Twitter cost him billions. Boeing won't be as expensive.

BOEING can fail all on it’s DEI own self.

No better candidate to help kill DEI than Musk and/or Trump.

Be interesting to know if they even asked the Russians whether they could bring them home earlier.

“Must should buy Boeing and teach them how to do things.”

Can’t fix stupid, can’t teach them either.

There was no more 'stupider' company than Twitter. It was fixed in a matter of weeks.

Those that can't be taught or refuse to be taught, can be fired. Must did that too with Twitter. Besides, Musk likes challenges.

Here’s another reason! (see link) You’re right the problem has been going on for some time. Nelson is just a political hack whose presence is just more grit in the poorly working NASA gears.

NASA is stuck in a perpetual pick-off play between third and home.

“ NASA said Starliner’s undocking from the ISS and unpiloted return to Earth”
So they said the starliner has to be undocked from inside. So will they put one guy in it, undock, then do a space walk back to the ISS?
I agree with you, the starliner will burnup on re-entry.

“We should all be ashamed of what we did with the country we inherited. “

NONSENSE. I take no blame for what other voterr have done. I cannot force others to make good decisions. I feel bad for what has happened to the country, but as hard as I have tried otherwise I take no blame in it.

Actually, a company cannot be stupid. Only people can. Elon fired the many stupid people Twitter had and hired smarter people too. So, Twitter did not fix stupid, it removed and replaced them.

Boeing has stupid people that cannot be fired. They own the stocks to keep their seats.

Who would be foolish enough to go up there again? Or even in the first place????

“ We should all be ashamed of what we did with the country we inherited‘

It was my generation that did it. Media, entertainment, leisure, the explosion of electronic “toys”. It is the basic stuff of human nature, you have to consciously reject the whisper of the enemy in order to retain your discipline once you’ve become successful and the golden touch has appeared in your hands. No society yet has done it…and scripture tells us plainly that none ever will.

Boeing has some of the finest aeronautical engineers in the world. The problem is bean counters now run Boeing and not engineers. The Challenger disaster was a result of pressure to launch, safety took a backseat. The engineer for Morton Thickol, the maker of the booster rockets said not to launch due to the low air temperature that would make the O Ring seals stiff and not sealing properly. NASA did not listen to his concerns. They launched anyway and all the astronauts died.

The Columbia disaster was due to poor design and not testing the effects of the foam hitting Columbia’s wing. All the astronauts died.

Do not give bean counters to much authority in aviation. Bad things then happen.

Yep, most Americans were born on third base, and think they hit a triple.

Dallas, that's a great quote and, unfortunately, describes me. If it weren't for my parents, I'd only claim a base hit single.
