Trump says administration will be ‘great for women and their reproductive rights’ in rhetorical shift
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/23/2024 | Brady Knox

Former President Donald Trump played a much different tone than previously on the topic of abortion and women’s rights, saying his administration would be “great for women and their reproductive rights.”

After delivering on his promise to anti-abortion groups to pick justices on the Supreme Court who would get Roe v. Wade overturned, the former president has sought to establish a middle ground on the topic of abortion. Following a series of devastating Republican electoral defeats that were largely over abortion rights, he has sought to distance himself from the topic altogether, culminating in him adopting vastly different rhetoric on the subject than Republicans have entertained previously.

“My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

The use of the term “reproductive rights” is rare from Republicans and signifies a major shift from previous periods.

Trump has defended his move to repeal Roe v. Wade, repeatedly arguing that it was what “everyone” wanted and that the topic is now properly back with the states.

“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land,” Trump said in April. “In this case, the law of the state.”

“Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be,” the former president added.

Trump has scoffed at suggestions he would implement a national abortion ban if elected, claims that were repeated in several speeches at the Democratic National Convention.

The recent Trump-backed Republican platform confirmed at the 2024 Republican National Convention struck out language of any abortion bans in a major departure from the past.

good synopsis and pretty spot on.

IMHO opinion, there is more to it.

There is a huge number of American women who have has an abortion - some estimates go as high as one in three women have had an abortion at some point in their life.

This can leave deep seated and often repressed feeling of guilt and remorse with all involved, but especially with the woman.

Many of the pro life arguments can trigger a very strong negative emotional response.

Democrats have learned how to manipulate women who have had an abortion by affirming their choice and absolving them of any guilt or sense of responsibility. There is also a certain psychological defense mechanism that makes some women who have had abortions wish to have other women join them in that decision to make them feel better about their decision.

Hey women, here are your “reproductive rights”: you have the right to reproduce, or not. As a corollary, you have the right to have sex with contraception, or not.

There will be no federal law legalizing abortion under President Trump - he will veto it.

Financial math isn’t going to be different for our Latin American replacements (except that the national credit card will get declined internationally).

And their morality isn’t going to be different either.

You don’t know that. And they could get a Constitutional Amendment.

They are turning us into Mexico and dragging us down from greatness and being the most advanced peoples into being mediocre and barely competent, they vote for abortion, vote left, vote trans and homosexual, and in general have lousy morals, it is why Mexico is Mexico.

Why do you think the left wants more and mor Catholics from south of the border?

Trump will be president for 4 years, with 2 pro-choice parties it becomes the norm.

The abortion issue is no longer a Federal issue and Trump is smart and correct to promise that he will stay out of it because it guts Democrats appeal to use abortion as a wedge issue with the abortion zealots.

It is not a federal issue? Then why is Trump going to allow a federal agency to send abortion pills through the mail? Why is he here promoting reproductive rights? Doesn't sound like he's staying out of it to me.

I think Trump will be supportive of pro life in these states but will not seek a federal ban on abortion because it is politically undoable.

________________________________________________

Maybe so, but why is Trump supportive of pro-choice positions in pro-choice states?

It’s like saying I’m against abortion, but it’s OK if my neighbor has one.

In fact I’ll even drive her to the Abortion Clinic.

This can leave deep seated and often repressed feeling of guilt and remorse with all involved, but especially with the woman.

That argument ended in the 1980s.

When Dr. C. Everett Koop was Reagan's Surgeon General, he authorized a study into women's reactions after an abortion. He was sure the study would prove that women were permanently scarred by abortion. It turned out quite differently.

The study showed that most women who had abortions viewed it as a positive experience. It was a declaration of independence from an overbearing father, husband or boyfriend, a blow against the patriarchy.

The results of the study were a shock to Dr. Koop and shook him to his roots. Koop was a devout Christian, and he wondered if he should suppress the study. But he chose to make it public.

Great! Let’s make rape and pedophilia states rights also. In fact, no more federal criminal works great in California too. statutes. Toss them n let the states decide.
A person who supports the murder of the most innocent will never get my vote.
Christian, if you are supporting this because your grocery bill is too high or your borders are open…. Pray. This will not end well.

“Use their words and muddy the waters I say.”

Who on either side of the political spectrum finds “reproductive rights” a muddy term?

“The Trump team is smart to co opt the propaganda language the Democrats use.”

Nothing is being co-opted. No one pro-life or pro-abortion thinks “”reproductive rights” = states rights.

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a medical freedom advocate and supports a woman’s right to choose until a fetus is viable.”

That’s from his website. “Viable” generally means 24 weeks.

Is the Truth Social post merely coincidental with RFK, jr.’s declaration of support?
