Trump says administration will be ‘great for women and their reproductive rights’ in rhetorical shift
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/23/2024 | Brady Knox

Former President Donald Trump played a much different tone than previously on the topic of abortion and women’s rights, saying his administration would be “great for women and their reproductive rights.”

After delivering on his promise to anti-abortion groups to pick justices on the Supreme Court who would get Roe v. Wade overturned, the former president has sought to establish a middle ground on the topic of abortion. Following a series of devastating Republican electoral defeats that were largely over abortion rights, he has sought to distance himself from the topic altogether, culminating in him adopting vastly different rhetoric on the subject than Republicans have entertained previously.

“My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

The use of the term “reproductive rights” is rare from Republicans and signifies a major shift from previous periods.

Trump has defended his move to repeal Roe v. Wade, repeatedly arguing that it was what “everyone” wanted and that the topic is now properly back with the states.

“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land,” Trump said in April. “In this case, the law of the state.”

“Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be,” the former president added.

Trump has scoffed at suggestions he would implement a national abortion ban if elected, claims that were repeated in several speeches at the Democratic National Convention.

The recent Trump-backed Republican platform confirmed at the 2024 Republican National Convention struck out language of any abortion bans in a major departure from the past.

Not really a change from sticking with the Court and federalism

It’s a red herring to make abortion seem la Presidential power, or issue

I think he means IVF treatment which he is for and never said he was against..and as far as abortion, Trump has always said he has three exceptions to abortion, rape, incest and life of the mother..abortion should be left to the states, every state people vote for what they want, isn’t that “Democracy” as the commies love putting it

Great for reproduction, Trump’s going to allow parents’ to keep their children’s reproductive parts. States and doctors can’t chop them off. We’re not going to allow it.

Well, women should have reproductive rights.
I couldn’t agree more with Donald Trump, more.

Over 2 years later, women still have reproductive rights.

Nobody should ever force a woman to reproduce.

Reproduction occurs AT conception.
By the time the abortion is procured, reproduction has already occurred.
So, Democrats are not really talking about reproductive rights.

Abortion has nothing to do with “reproductive rights.”
Because all abortions happen after reproduction has already occurred.
Abortion is the physical destruction of the results of reproduction.

It most certainly does not prevent reproduction, which, again, has already occurred.

To what point? No serious candidate for president who claims to be pro-life should use language that assumes the existence and validity of so called “reproductive rights.”. That is pandering.

Stating it is now up to the states is not the same thing as giving legitimacy to the belief a woman has a “right” to kill her preborn child.

The Democrat propaganda uses emotionally loaded but empty terms that mean whatever anyone wants them to mean so voters can project their particular viewpoint onto the terms

The Trump team is smart to co opt the propaganda language the Democrats use.

The abortion issue is no longer a Federal issue and Trump is smart and correct to promise that he will stay out of it because it guts Democrats appeal to use abortion as a wedge issue with the abortion zealots

I am dismayed at how much support abortion seems to have even in supposedly conservative states like Arizona but it seems to be the reality with the world we live in

Great for women, no more high inflation, no more high interest rates, no open borders, no more skyrocketing violent crime, no more men in girl’s locker rooms, no more men in women’s sports and no more of that pervert Joey Biden! The time is now. Women for Trump!

It’s common sense. Republicans are for women. Democrats hate women.

If abortion is a reproductive right then robbing banks is a financial right.

Pass laws for unlimited abortion in Blue States, people move out of the State because of those laws, the loony abortion left can't increase population, the State withers on the vine and collapses.

Then rational, normal, pro life people move back in with plenty of opportunity as the State is generally unpopulated from lack of population growth.

Well, they could become a sanctuary State with new illegal aliens bused or flown in and last a little longer than usual, but the generally ugly women who don't get abortions because they don't have sex to get pregnant in the first place and want access to abortions anyway, would force the illegal aliens to go rape women out of State, be arrested and never come back. 🙃

Most abortions are done by pills.

The federal government has never been able to really dent the recreational drug trade.

Maggie, the abortion pill vendor, would not likely be convicted.

“Abortion has nothing to do with “reproductive rights.”
Because all abortions happen after reproduction has already occurred.”

Great point!

“Abortion is the physical destruction of the results of reproduction.”

Here, I must disagree:

Abortion is the killing of a child. I would accept using the word “euthanizing” if “killing” does not sound scientific enough - as long as the definition does not hide what is really happening.

I am happy to listen to someone’s argument for why killing or euthanizing their child may be the right thing. I can’t imagine I would agree, but will listen as long as they admit it is killing or euthanizing.

If they insist on obfuscating with phrases like “reproductive rights” or “right to choose” or “my body my choice” - I won’t even listen.

The abortion issue is no longer a Federal issue

That is a huge myth. The Democrats never agreed to that. They are still 200% fighting for it on a federal level. Now that Republicans have raised the white flag and given up on pro-life, it's only a short matter of time before more extreme abortion laws than ever are enacted.

By the way, Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Roe was "wrongly decided," and she was not pro-life. There is a huge myth of what is going on hre.

Also, now the government can put people in prison for being pro-life. And Republicans have no problem with that.

The bottom line is, Democrats are fighting abortion hard, and now that Republicans have given up, there is nothing to stop them. The U.S. already has the most extreme pro-abortion laws in the world, and they are about to be a lot more extreme.

(I also assume that the Mexico City Policy will not be changed again.)

Agreed

That is why President Trump is being smart.

You can’t stop the Democrats unless you win.

Trump, rightly or wrongly, has calculated that conceding the current abortion stays quo is the best path to winning in 2024
