Ohio spent over $11.5 million on legalized weed in less than a week
The New York Post ^ | 08/20/2024 | Joe Durbin

The first five days of legal weed sales in Ohio generated more than $11.5 million, the state has reported.

The newly formed Ohio Division of Cannabis Control released the figures for marijuana distribution by licensed dispensaries within the Buckeye State, where recreational purchases by adults over 21 were allowed for the first time.

Stores sold 1,285 pounds of marijuana flower and more than 173,000 other products, such as vaporizer cartridges and edibles.

Under Ohio law, 10% of all marijuana sales go to the Department of Taxation, while a 5.75% charge is also added to all Ohio purchases as sales tax, with individual counties having the option to add even more.

That adds up to more than $1.8 million in new tax revenue for Ohio — in less than a week.

These numbers are on trend with other states who have made recreational puffing legal.

Colorado, the first state to legalize, scored about $1 million in new tax revenue during its first week of sales back in 2014.

Illinois, the largest state in the Midwest by population, raked in more than $2 million in 2018; while Michigan — Ohio’s neighbor to the north — only saw about $270,000 during their first week of sales in December, 2019.

If Trump called for the legalization of cannabis, it would probably move the needle enough to secure a win. Besides being a popular position, it would underscore Kamala’s war on blacks and Hispanics while she was a prosecutor.

Was Harris not supposed to prosecute cannabis arrests as district attorney?

I don’t get that line of attack.

I believe it is a matter of record at this point that Kamala was smoking the stuff in California while also prosecuting people in California for smoking the stuff.

I’ve only seen the admission that she smoked in college, which would have been in the 80s.

If you have additional info.

The post I questioned said Harris carried out a war on blacks and Latinos for following the law at the time and what the alternative should have Ben. To refuse to follow the law?

It's incredible that state governments are pushing the use of marijuana when new studies are showing that it kills you.

State governments could further increase tax revenues by legalizing heroin.

There is no evidence that heroin is a gateway to tobacco or carbonated sodas.

Besides: “it is a free country.”

Cannabis is quasi-legal in almost all states now, under the THCa loophole. THCa is precursor to THC before it is heated above 200 degrees, where it turns into THC. A legality, yes, but under the 2018 farm act, it passes as hemp.

Since there are no restrictions on THCa, as long as it tests at under three percent THC, it’s federally legal, and for sale in various forms in 45 states at the moment. Drop by your local vape shop.

I’m only repeating what I heard from a friend...

Personal attack. Excellent.

It’s also not hipocacy, or hypocrisy even.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply though.

I think it’s mostly voter driven. Legislators won’t touch it.

more than $1.8 million in new tax revenue

Back in when We Teenagers (mid 1970's) were saying that if the goobermint entities would legalize Pot and collect the Taxes on the sales they could balance the books. Of course the goobermint idiots were too stupid to understand that simple concept...
