There is a lot of chatter on Twitter/X regarding Kamala Harris' bizarre word salads.
For a long time, people have just assumed she is a moron, and I admit that this has been my working theory. She rose through the ranks of Democratic politics on the back of relationships with powerful people, implying that intelligence was not the driving force in her rise to power.
She certainly is not charismatic, regardless of what the current propaganda keeps trying to sell to us. Until the media decided that they had no choice but to back her with all their firepower, they were actually quite disgusted by her, probably because of her collapse in the Democratic race in 2019. They had been 100% behind her and she collapsed into a heap of dung in that campaign.
Now there is an alternate theory about why she is so incoherent, and once you look, you can't unsee the likelihood that it is true.

Is Kamala drunk most of the time? If you watch her talk with that possibility in mind, so much makes sense all of a sudden. All those word salads, the occasional slurring, the inappropriate laughs... These are all tells that her brain is fogged by something, and it may not be stupidity.

2. Her campaign team and the Biden Admin manage her the way families attempt to manage alcoholic parents:
The campaign is hyper-controlling, keeping her from any situation that might expose her secret - hence not allowing her to speak off-script, and refusing press conferences.
The Biden Admin was unhappy with Kamala and reluctant to give her responsibility. Though the administration did not admit it publicly, aides and staff reported it to the press with enough regularity that it was considered basic fact.
3. The ENTIRE *JOY* CAMPAIGN IS AN ELABORATE COVER FOR HER PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS. It's the classic "Mom's not drunk, she's just really happy!" on a national scale.
It's like being gaslit by dysfunctional parents into pretending our alcoholic mom/aunt/grandma/whatever is just fine, thank you, keep smiling, the world is watching and if we pretend hard enough maybe we can fool ourselves into being happy, too

Don't get me wrong; she is not the sharpest tool in the shed, not playing with a full deck or knocking it out of the park when she takes an IQ test. But is she as stupid as she seems, or is she drunk?

Obviously, I don't know; it could be a Xanax addiction, and if that is the case, that would be potentially worse. Addiction to benzodiazepines would be easier to hide but harder to actually kick during a campaign. The withdrawal symptoms are famously harsh, and the period of time it takes to get better is famously long. It is a remarkably unpleasant and debilitation process and there is no way to do it while traveling the country and speaking regularly to large crowds.

I totally missed this until it was pointed out to me, but I think that was confirmation bias on my part. I have been seeing her up on the national stage for five years, and you assume that nobody could rise to her position without being at the very least sober when in public.
But then again, she didn't exactly rise to where she is by being especially good at politics. She was carried there by others who were pushing her up the mountain, not hiking up it by herself. Since it didn't take skill to get there, maybe even sobriety wasn't required.

And it would seem odd that this has been successfully covered up for so long. But then again, Tim Walz's drunk driving lies were covered up for decades, as have his serial lies about his service record.
If the media doesn't want to see it and the people who are tied to her professionally don't want to say it, it will not be said or reported. It really could be that simple. Lots of things get swept under the rug all the time.

I think she has chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from her Willie Brown days.
Maybe she’s a heroin junkie and the cocaine found at the WH was hers (her ‘perk’).
Makes as much sense as any of the other babble...more so because she doesn’t act like any drunk I’ve ever known.

I don’t understand how voters can stick with her, accepting her limitations because her handlers behind the scene will keep her from messing up.

More like marijuana...that’s my opinion too. She doesn’t look like a drunk, and the giggling and her detachment from the world around her (weird hand gestures, inappropriate comments and the inability to make sense while thinking she sounds profound) scream CA in the stoner era.
It is actually possible to smoke or otherwise take so much weed that you end up either having a pyschotic break or what we called “perma-stoned.” I saw it happen to one of my son’s friends and it was very sad.
I’d say she’s in the perma-stoned category. But she’s wealthy, well-married, the VP, and the Dem presidential candidate. So I guess being perma-stoned is no hindrance to advancement in the Dem world.
Drunk would explain all the laughing and giggling at stupid things.
